Manchester United teen prodigy Shola Shoretire snubs interest from PSG, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to sign his first professional deal at Old Trafford - and the 17-year-old is tipped to make his first-team debut THIS SEASON

* Shola Shoretire has been making waves in Manchester United's youth academy
* The winger attracted interest from Europe's elite and is rated as a top prospect
* Having been convinced by the likes of Marcus Rashford, Shoretire picked United
* The 17-year-old talent is already expected to step into the first-team in 2020-21

Manchester United have agreed a lucrative first professional contract with 17-year old prospect Shola Shoretire, amid strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe for his age, Shoretire will sign his deal this week, which is understood to underline just how much he is valued by United.

Though he only turned 17 on Tuesday, Shoretire has been playing for United’s U23s, has trained with the first ream and is widely tipped by the club’s coaches to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad this season despite the competition for places in his position.

Manchester United have secured the future of highly-rated teenage winger Shola Shoretire. The 17-year-old prodigy has signed his first professional deal with the Old Trafford side. Shoretire is expected to make the jump into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's setup this season already

He made his UEFA Youth League debut as a 14-year-old, the youngest ever for United, and has starred in the FA Youth Cup prompting interest from Europe’s biggest clubs who were keen to convince him he would have a better pathway to first team football with them.

However, after speaking to peers such as Michael Owen, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, Shoretire has been convinced to build his career at United.

Born in Nigeria, he was raised in Newcastle, and cites former Barcelona striker Ronaldinho as his idol. He plays off the left wing but is comfortable on the right or behind the striker.

Quick with good balance and an eye for goal, Shoretire has always played above his age level at United and now hopes to follow Greenwood and Rashford to the next level.

The Nigerian-born youngster is rated among the top talents in his position in world football

THE SECRET SCOUT: Manchester United's teenage midfielder Ethan Galbraith has an old head on young shoulders and a superb range of passing

* Ethan Galbraith is a calming influence in midfield with an old head on him
* Northern Ireland international has a range of passing and makes the right choice
* He is still slight and has some developing to do physically to be commanding

WHAT HAS HE GOT?

Playing with highly regarded Manchester United academy players — some signed for transfer fees — this 19-year-old Northern Ireland international stood out. Although slight, he was a calming and confident influence in midfield.

The phrase ‘old head on young shoulders’ came to mind as he directed the play from deep but with licence to move forward and overload. His pass selection appealed to me — playing short, receiving the return and knitting the midfield together.

Galbraith also spread the play and stretched the opposition. Two crossfield passes were exceptional — fast, accurate and not lofted, to deny the opposition full back time to intercept.

WHAT DOES HE NEED?

He is only 5ft 9in and is yet to fully develop, albeit his lack of physicality did not deter him in midfield skirmishes.

On the contrary, a moment of temper in this game saw him sent off! But he did not look like an intimidator and largely tackled cleanly.

He seemed to have leadership qualities and players responded to his promptings.

Competition at the big clubs is fierce and only a tiny percentage progress to senior level early.

Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood have done that at United, so it will be interesting to follow Galbraith’s progress.

Like father, like son! Robbie Savage's child Charlie, 17, signs his first professional contract with Manchester United... and bids to go one better than his lookalike dad, who failed to make a SINGLE appearance for the club

* Charlie Savage has put pen to paper on his first pro deal with Manchester United
* The 17-year-old, the son of ex-midfielder Robbie, joined United two years ago
* He follows in his dad's footsteps by starting his senior career at Old Trafford
* The midfielder promised to continue his hard work after putting pen to paper

Charlie Savage has followed in the footsteps of his dad Robbie by signing his first professional contract with Manchester United.

The 17-year-old midfielder will be hoping to fare better than his father at Old Trafford by breaking into the first team as he vowed to keep working hard to impress manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Robbie Savage failed to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils after joining the club in 1991 - instead moving on to Leicester City, Birmingham and Blackburn while fellow academy graduates like David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes went on to flourish as the famed 'Class of 92'.

Expressing his delight about his deal on Twitter, Savage Jnr thanked his closed friends and family for their support in helping him secure the contract as he sets out to forge a successful career at the Theatre of Dreams.

Charlie Savage, left, has followed in his dad Robbie's footsteps by signing pro terms at United. He will hope to go one better than Savage Snr and feature for the first team at Old Trafford

'Delighted to have signed my first professional contract @MUFC. I would like to thank all of my friends, family and everyone @neweraglobalsports for all their support. The hard work continues #mufc '

Savage - who has represented Wales at U17 level - joined the United academy in July 2019 and plays as a central midfielder.

He was rewarded with a senior contract after starring for the Under-18s this season, scoring twice and providing five assists in 17 games.

Speaking about his aspirations at United this week, Savage said he looked up to midfielder Scott McTominay after successfully breaking through as a youngster, as well as Marcus Rashford and Brandon Williams

'The main inspiration for me is Scott — he's the best with us. He comes over to talk to us. He had it difficult in the youth team,' he told the Sun.

Savage has impressed for United's U18s this season, providing five assists in the 20-21 season

'He didn't play many matches but he just kept going and he proved it's not always the standout players who make the first team

'Sometimes it's the players who might have had a back seat but they keep pushing and pushing. Scott, Marcus Rashford and also Brandon Williams all inspire us to improve and move forward.'

Savage - who even shares the same long blond hair his father had when he first joined United - revealed Robbie isn't putting pressure on him to succeed, and even reckons he is better in front of goal than his old man.

'My dad doesn't really say too much to me,' he added. 'He leaves that to the coaches who know better!

'He's there if I need him but he always stresses to me how big a thing it is to play for your country — and that I should be proud of what I've achieved so far.

'We are different. He was tenacious, whereas I'm more of a ball player.

'I think I'm a better finisher than him too! He won't like me saying that — but if I can have half the career he had, then I'll be very happy.'

Manchester United win the race for highly-rated coach Justin Cochrane, as he leaves the England youth set-up to become head of player development at Old Trafford despite emerging as a front-runner for the vacant U21 job

* Man United have won the race to appoint highly-rated coach Justin Cochrane
* The former Spurs academy boss is set to be their head of youth development
* Cochrane was in line to be England U21 boss after impressing in stint with U17s
* A number of clubs were interested in his services but United pounced for him

Manchester United have prised highly-rated coach Justin Cochrane away from the FA and handed him one of the top jobs in their academy.

United will appoint Cochrane as their new head of player development and coaching, tempting him away from the FA after three years in the England youth set-up.

Cochrane had been in the running for the England Under-21 job having joined the FA from Tottenham and progressed through their system, coaching the Under-15s, 16s and then 17s.

The 39 year-old was among those interviewed for the position that has been vacant since Aidy Boothroyd’s departure in April.

Manchester United have handed England youth coach Justin Cochrane a top job. Cochrane had emerged as one of the contenders to replace Aidy Boothroyd (right) as U21 boss

Cochrane is well thought of within FA circles with England manager Gareth Southgate tipping him to be a 'top coach'.

However, United have persuaded him to return to club football and help oversee the development of their academy products working in conjunction with Under-23 manager Neil Wood and Under-18 head coach Neil Ryan.

Cochrane was attracting interest from clubs offering him first-team management and coaching jobs but it is United who have won the race for his services.

London-born Antigua and Barbuda international Cochrane had a 13-year playing career which began at QPR and included spells at Crewe and Rotherham.

Cochrane began his coaching career at Spurs, working his way from the U12s to the U23s. He moved to the FA and took charge of the U15 and U16s before moving up to the U17 group. Cochrane had a 13-year playing career, which started at QPR and ended in the lower leagues. He will work in conjunction with U23 boss Neil Wood and U18 coach Neil Ryan

Before the FA, Cochrane performed a number of youth team coaching roles at Spurs from their under-12s up to the under-23s.

He has helped develop the likes of current Spurs youngsters Japhet Tanganga, Oliver Skipp and Dane Scarlett.

A host of players who have flourished after leaving Spurs both abroad and in the EFL, such as Marcus Edwards and Noni Madueke, have also worked with Cochrane.

Cochrane further enhanced his reputation after Spurs with England, attracting the interest of United.

United’s move for Cochrane is their latest as they continue off-the-field restructuring of the club and their youth set-up.

In March, United named John Murtough their football director, Darren Fletcher technical director and gave Matt Judge the new title of director of football negotiations with Nicky Butt subsequently leaving his job as head of first-team development.

The Premier League runners-up have also been bolstering their scouting network with Jamahl Jarrett a recent addition as their new lead southern scout after being lured away from Crystal Palace.

MCSHANE REJOINS IN INNOVATIVE NEW ROLE

Manchester United are delighted to announce another innovative coaching appointment to its Professional Development Phase (U17-U23).

Ahead of the 2021/22 season, Paul McShane rejoins the Academy as playing coach, having left United as graduate in 2006.

The experienced defender and A-licence coach will combine his talents to provide a different perspective by coaching from within sessions and from an on-pitch perspective in fixtures when deemed appropriate.

McShane will also drive daily training standards from within sessions, providing high-level competition for the Academy’s talented forward players and giving various development opportunities to his fellow defenders.

United’s next generation of Academy graduates will benefit from McShane’s immense knowledge obtained from featuring in over 400 club games and 33 international fixtures.

The defender, who has recently spent time coaching United’s Under-16s, will work as a coach across the Under-15s to Under-23s teams.

Nick Cox, Manchester United Head of Academy, said: “Across the Academy, we have always taken an innovative approach to ensure that we continue our proud tradition of producing world-class players capable of excelling in Manchester United’s first-team.
“This new role was carefully considered and adds yet another level of support for our players in helping them to play at the highest level possible.

“We believe that Paul is the perfect candidate. He arrives as an extremely highly recommended coach but also clearly still has a lot left to give on the pitch. This unique combination is invaluable for our Under-23s team and will further drive the professional standards of the group.

“As an Academy graduate, who has had an outstanding career, Paul knows the club inside out and can pass on this wealth of knowledge every day to our young players.

“Paul will now form part of a team of dedicated experts once again bringing the best external coaching talent to complement our existing group.”

Paul McShane said: “I am extremely pleased to be rejoining a club that means so much to me. I have been working on my coaching badges for several years and the opportunity to work with young players, whilst also playing in certain games, is the perfect role.
“I have developed a great deal of knowledge over my career and I look forward to mentoring and supporting the next generation of Academy graduates by passing on all of my experience.

“It feels very special to be back to where I began my professional career and I can’t wait to get started in supporting these talented players to reach their immense potential.”

McShane will solely represent United’s Under-23s side as one of three permitted over-age outfield players in Premier League 2.
