Manchester United WILL buy in January if they can snap up a star on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer hit list with funds ready to make their move

* Manchester United are looking to spend again if a target becomes available
* There is belief the club is moving in the right direction with their transfers
* Harry Maguire, Dan James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined in the summer
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to bolster his attack and has plenty of options

Manchester United are not expecting a big January transfer window – but will pounce if a player on their hit list becomes available.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the midst of a rebuilding project at Old Trafford, and his side has made what executive vice chairman Ed Woodward today described as a ‘mixed’ start to the season.

Reinforcements are clearly needed – although officials do not believe that the right players will be available when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Manchester United will look to pounce in January if one of their targets becomes available. Ed Woodward said his aim is to fuse the club's academy together with world class signings

Instead, they have a list of targets they feel are within reach next summer. However, should a player on that list suddenly become available, funds are in place for the Norwegian to make a move.

United, currently in seventh and 18 points behind leaders Liverpool, believe January is a ‘tough’ time to do business and their recruitment programme is aimed at when the window opens following the conclusion of the season.

There is a strong belief that they are moving in the right direction, after a number of big-money failures, and that the arrivals of Dan James, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are evidence of that.

While there is a preference for younger talent that can be improved, United will not rule out a move for more experienced names should they fit within the club’s ‘culture and philosophy’.

Manchester United's interest in Jadon Sancho has been well documented over recent months

Erling Braut Haaland is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe given his relentless form

James Maddison has fought his way into Gareth Southgate's England squad with his form

Declan Rice has endured a difficult season with West Ham but would still be a fine purchase

Callum Wilson has also been heavily linked with Chelsea and is now a regular England call-up

Moussa Dembele has been watched multiple times by Manchester United playing for Lyon

Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has backed John McGinn to make the move

Jack Grealish has shone brightly on his return to the Premier League with Aston Villa

Announcing today’s first quarter financials, which revealed United could lose out on up to £67m by not being in the Champions League this season, Woodward appeared relaxed about the state of play.

‘We have a clear vision in terms of football philosophy and recruitment,’ he said.

‘The significant investments that we have made in recent years in areas such as transfers, recruitment infrastructure, analytics and our Academy are already beginning to bear fruit.

'We are very proud to be shortly approaching a milestone 4,000th game featuring an Academy player, and we are particularly optimistic regarding the considerable young talent currently coming through.

'Our ultimate goal is to win trophies by playing exciting football with a team that fuses graduates from our Academy with world-class acquisitions.’

Elsewhere in the figures, commercial and sponsorship revenue was up, while broadcasting revenue dropped significantly by £9.9m – again down to non-participation in the Champions League.

Employee benefit expenses for the quarter were £70.2 million, a decrease of £6.8 million, or 8.8%, over the prior year quarter, primarily due to reductions in player salaries - another result of non-participation in Europe’s top competition.

'A change is 100% excluded': Denis Zakaria's agent reveals the midfielder won't be leaving in January amid interest from Arsenal and Manchester United

* A number of clubs are keeping tabs on Switzerland star Denis Zakaria
* Arsenal and Manchester United are both keen on the defensive midfielder
* Borussia Monchengladbach rate the player in the region of £44m
* His agent has dismissed claims of him leaving the club in January

The agent of Borussia Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria has dismissed claims that his client will be leaving the club after interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

Both Premier League clubs have been linked with the £44million-rated defensive midfielder, who has starred for the Bundesliga side since he joined from Swiss side Young Boys in 2017.

However Bild have reported that the 22-year-old Swiss international's agent has shelved any possibility of the player switching teams in the upcoming transfer window.

Denis Zakaria's agent has denied claims of the midfielder leaving Borussia Monchengladbach

His agent, Mathieu Beda, said: 'Denis will not leave Borussia in the winter, a change is 100 per cent excluded.

'Denis is in very good shape in Gladbach and has been playing really well for weeks, but he still has more potential and he wants to show that in Gladbach now instead of dealing with a change.'

There had been talk of Arsenal offering Granit Xhaka to his former club in an attempt to persuade the club to let go of Zakaria.

Former club captain Xhaka has not played for Arsenal since his infamous substitution against Crystal Palace on October 27 when supporters booed him off the pitch and the Swiss midfielder reacted angrily, telling them to 'f*** off'.

Xhaka and Zakaria play together for Switzerland - Xhaka has been capped 78 times for his country while Zakaria has represented his country 24 times.

Manchester United are also said to have kept tabs on Zakaria as a potential option to strengthen their midfield, especially with Paul Pogba's future still in the air and amid consistent talk of Nemanja Matic leaving the club.

Other European clubs have also been interested, with Bild previously reporting that Dortmund had a £20m offer rejected in the summer of 2018.

Zakaria has been a pivotal part of Monchengladbach's success this season, and the club currently sit four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga

Manchester United become latest top Premier League side to eye up a move for Reading starlet Danny Loader

* Manchester United are weighing up a move for Reading forward Danny Loader
* He is building a reputation as one of the best young talents outside the top flight
* Loader has made 29 appearances for Reading after breaking into the first team

Reading youngster Danny Loader is attracting interest from Manchester United.

Loader is building a reputation as one of the best young talents outside the Premier League with a number of top-flight sides monitoring his progress.

He has made 29 appearances for the Royals after breaking into the first team from the academy last season.

Loader, who has recently appointed new agents after leaving his previous management, scored his first professional goal in April against Middlesbrough.

But United are showing an interest in Loader, which could leave the Madejski Stadium side in a fight to keep their talented youngster.

The Old Trafford side have shown a willingness to recruit from England's lower leagues - their capture of Dan James from Swansea ahead of the current campaign a case in point.

Juventus 'will test Man United's stance on selling Paul Pogba' during talks over Mario Mandzukic move in the next few weeks with French star 'preferring return to Turin over Real Madrid'

* Paul Pogba 'would prefer a return to Juventus over a move to Real Madrid'
* Italian club 'will gauge Man United's position on letting the midfielder leave'
* They will do so during talks with United over Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic
* Pogba played for the Italian champions for four successful years until 2016

Juventus 'will make contact with Manchester United in the next two to three weeks' as they begin their efforts to bring Paul Pogba back to Turin.

However, they will only raise the topic on the fringes of a meeting with United to discuss the future of their striker Mario Mandzukic.

According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Pogba would prefer to return to Juventus, the club he played for between 2012 and 2016, rather than join Real Madrid.

Juventus 'are preparing to begin their operation to bring Paul Pogba back to the club'. Pogba enjoyed four successful years with Juventus between 2012 and 2016, winning the Italian league championship in four consecutive seasons

And with this knowledge, the Italian champions will gauge United's intentions concerning a player who has made no secret of his desire to leave Old Trafford next summer.

United managed to keep hold of Pogba last summer despite interest from some of Europe's heavyweights but have reportedly started to realise that holding the France midfielder against his will may be counter-productive.

United and Juventus are set to open talks over the possible transfer of striker Mario Mandzukic. Pogba 'would prefer a return to Juventus over a move to Real Madrid' next summer

In the meantime, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to strengthen United's attacking options, with 33-year-old Croatian forward Mandzukic one option.

Tuttosport report that Pogba, who has been sidelined for most of the current season with an ankle injury, wouldn't turn down Real but would prefer Juventus.

Pogba, 26, played 178 times in his four seasons with Juve and scored 34 goals. He won the Scudetto four times in four years there.

Manchester United 'considering shock January move for former Man City striker Edin Dzeko' as they look for short-term fix to problems up front

* Manchester United want to bring in a striker during the winter window
* They left themselves short by letting Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez leave
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add a short-term option to help his side

Manchester United are considering a surprise January move for former Manchester City man Edin Dzeko, according to reports.

United want to bring in a striker in the winter window after leaving themselves short of options up front following the exits of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku late in the summer.

Their failure to sign a replacement meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to rely on the likes of Mason Greenwood when injuries bit earlier in the season.

Manchester United are considering a January move for ex-Manchester City man Edin Dzeko

There has been interest in Mario Mandzukic and he was seen as a target for January to solve their striking issues.

But a lack of game time at Juventus means they are less interested in the Croatian, according to ESPN.

And they might instead move for 33-year-old Roma striker Dzeko instead.

Dzeko famously scored the equaliser as City dramatically pipped United to the title on the final day of the 2011-12 season.

He hit a total of 72 goals in 189 matches for City over a five-year spell.

The Bosnian also bagged two at Old Trafford when City beat United 6-1 in a game that could now be viewed as a turning point in the dynamic between the two sides.

Dzeko has hit 93 goals in his 194 games for Roma — with 39 coming in the 2016-17 season.

Atletico Madrid 'join race to sign Nemanja Matic' as out-of-favour midfielder looks for move away from Manchester United

* Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Manchester United's Nemanja Matic
* Diego Simeone's side join AC Milan in keeping an eye on a potential January deal
* Matic has made just five appearances this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic in January.

Matic has been limited to just five appearances so far this season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, with the United boss preferring Scott McTominay, Andreas Pereiraand Fred in the centre of midfield.

The 31-year-old is believed to be keen for a move away come the January transfer window, and Atletico have now joined AC Milan in the race for the Serb, according to ESPN FC.

Nemanja Matic could be on his way out of Manchester United, with Atletico Madrid interested. Matic has fallen out of favour this season with Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Matic has not been in the United matchday squad since October 6, due to an unknown injury

United reportedly rejected Milan's advances for Matic in the summer, but he could still be on his way out of the exit door at Old Trafford, with Serie A or La Liga a potential destination.

Matic, having played twice in the Europa League, would be eligible for the Champions League should Diego Simeone's side qualify for the knockout stages.

Having signed from Chelsea in the summer of 2017, the Serbian international's contract runs out next summer, and United are yet to trigger the option of a one-year extension.

They could be prepared to let him leave in January in order to receive a transfer fee, instead of let him leave for free in the summer.

Manchester United 'eyeing move for Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu... and 20-year-old has a £10m release clause they plan to trigger'

* Diario de Valladolid claim Mohammed Salisu has impressed Man United scouts
* The young defender's agent is the father of United playmaker Juan Mata
* Club alerted to the fact he has a £10m release clause written into his contract

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu.

Diario de Valladolid claim the 20-year-old has impressed United's scouts and the club see him as an affordable option.

The player's agent is the father of playmaker Juan Mata and the Red Devils have been alerted to the fact that Salisu has a £10m release clause written into his contract.

Man United are reportedly interested in signing Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu. The 20-year-old has started all 14 of Valladolid's games this season and has been impressive

The Ghanaian youngster only signed his current deal in May and it is due to expire in 2020.

Valladolid rate him highly and it is unlikely they would be willing to let him to leave before the end of the season but they may have no option.

Everton, Newcastle, Southampton and Norwich City also said to be interested in the defender.

Salisu joined Valladolid's youth setup in October 2017 and broke into the first team squad last season. He has since secured his spot in the team, starting all 14 of their matches this campaign.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool among clubs in race for Peterborough's Ricky-Jade Jones... with starlet valued at over £2m

* Seventeen-year-old Ricky-Jade Jones has played four times for Peterborough
* He scored on his full debut vs Cambridge and FA Cup bow vs Stevenage
* Arsenal, Manchester City and Leicester City are also in for the exciting forward
* Southampton and Burnley watched him make his league debut at the weekend

Peterborough are bracing themselves for January offers for their latest prized asset Ricky-Jade Jones.

Exciting teenage forward Jones has been in the sights of scouts from a string of Premier League clubs this season as he has emerged from League One Peterborough's academy.

The race to sign the 17-year-old is now hotting up ahead of the re-opening of the transfer window.

Peterborough's teenage forward Ricky-Jade Jones is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs

Jones has featured four times for Peterborough this season, scoring on his full debut against Cambridge and first FA Cup appearance against Stevenage, both this month.

Boss Darren Ferguson handed Jones his league debut against Burton on Saturday when talent spotters from Manchester United, Tottenham, Southampton and Burnley were watching on.

Liverpool, Leicester, Manchester City and Arsenal have also made checks on the lightning quick youngster who can play through the middle or out wide.

Spurs were the first club to test the waters with a £2million approach which was knocked back but Peterborough expect that to just be the start of an auction.

They have strengthened their bargaining position by tying Jones down on a new contract which he signed on his 17th birthday earlier this month.

Peterborough have a history of securing significant fees, especially from their attacking talents, having helped develop the likes of Dwight Gayle, Britt Assombalonga, Connor Washington, Jack Marriott and Craig Mackail-Smith before selling them on and Jones could be next.

Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz 'in talks with SEVEN European giants' over £110m summer move as clubs including Man United, Liverpool and Real Madrid battle to sign him

* Kai Havertz has impressed for Bayer Leverkusen in the past couple of years
* The 20-year-old scored 17 goals last season and has been capped for Germany
* A host of European clubs are interested in the attacking midfielder's signature
* Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also keeping tabs

Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz is reportedly in talks with a host of top European clubs about a £110million move next summer.

20-year-old midfielder Havertz has impressed in the Bundesliga since his breakthrough into the first-team in 2017, and he scored 17 goals in the German top-flight last season.

He made his international debut for Germany last year also, and now Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have all contacted his agent about a potential move, according to German publication Bild.

Kai Havertz is being courted by a number of top European clubs for a big-money summer move. The 20-year-old has made seven appearances for Germany since his debut in September 2018. The attacking midfielder admits he feels as though he is ready for a move outside of Germany

It is reported that a January move could be facilitated, but Havertz is keen to stay until the summer as he looks to impress national team boss Joachim Low and force his way into Germany's Euro 2020 squad.

Bayern Munich failed with a £76million bid last summer, and Havertz's value has now risen to in the region of £110m.

The 20-year-old is said to be close to making a decision on his long-term future in the coming weeks.

Havertz is keen to work with a coach he trusts and has faith in, such as Mauricio Pochettino, which could make a move to Bayern a possibility should the Argentinean move to the Allianz Arena.

Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp is also thought to be an admirer, along with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Havertz's motivation is certainly not financial, but he'll nonetheless have a lucrative move on the horizon should he leave Leverkusen.

He discussed his future recently with Spanish outlet Marca, and hinted a transfer in the near-future is a possibility.

'I think I've picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen,' Havertz said.

'I know the rhythm of these international matches and I'm confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany.

'For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we'll see.'
