Spekulasi transfer Samir Nasri terus berkembang. Isunya gelandang Arsenal asal Prancis itu akan bergabung ke Manchester United.

Meski belum pasti, Rio Ferdinand sudah menyambut kemungkinan tersebut dengan antusias. Bek United itu menilai jejak prestasi Eric Cantona akan berlanjut dengan bergabungnya Nasri.

"Samir Nasri adalah pemain yang luar biasa yang punya teknis bagus dan bakat yang luar biasa," tandas Ferdinand.

"Dan jangan lupa dia bisa mencetak gol," lanjutnya.

Ferdinand juga merasa Nasri akan bisa lebih sukses bersama United ketimbang di Arsenal.

"Bagi saya dia adalah pemain terbaik saat ini. Saya rasa dia bahkan bisa memenangi gelar pemain terbaik Prancis di level internasional," ungkap Ferdinand.

"Pemain asal Prancis punya sejarah bagus di sini, Thierry Henry fantastis, seperti halnya Cantona. Dan jangan lupa Marcel Desailly," paparnya mengakhiri.

Justru kalo menurut pendapat ane malah Benzema yang cocok jadi penerus Cantona, jarang gocek tapi akurasi tendangannya bagus, yaa walaupun Benzema agak kurang "galak" dibanding King Cantona hehehe

Return of the King! Cantona set for Old Trafford return in Scholes' testimonial

Manchester United icon Eric Cantona is set for a sensational return back to Old Trafford.

Cantona's comeback has been confirmed as part of Paul Scholes' testimonial game on August 5, when the Frenchman will coach the legendary New York Cosmos side, currently bidding to gain admittance to Major League Soccer.

Although a decent crowd could have been anticipated anyway to mark Scholes' retirement, which was announced in the wake of Manchester United's Champions League final defeat to Barcelona last month, Cantona's presence will only fuel interest further.

The charismatic striker is regarded as one of the most significant figures in the club's history, proving to be the catalyst for United's emergence as the dominant side of the Premier League era.


Legend: Cantona is revered at Old Trafford

He quit suddenly in 1997, having won four titles and two domestic doubles in his five seasons at Old Trafford.

'I wish to congratulate Paul for such an incredible career at Manchester United and I am looking forward to returning to Old Trafford in my new role with the New York Cosmos,' said Cantona, who recently celebrated his 45th birthday.

Following David Beckham's return for Gary Neville's testimonial last month, it marks another significant day for United, and Scholes in particular.

'This is going to be a big night for me and my family but one which I intend to enjoy and I will savour every moment,' said Scholes.

'I have spent my whole footballing life at Manchester United, so this will be an emotional farewell.

'This club is special in many ways but the fans are the best and I have always appreciated their support throughout my career.

'I hope they enjoy the night, especially seeing the Boss and Eric battling it out in front of the dug outs.'

Scholes has committed himself to a coaching career at Old Trafford, having marked the end of his playing days, during which he secured 10 league titles, a figure second only to Ryan Giggs.

He is widely acknowledged to be one of the finest players of his generation, with Sir Alex Ferguson all the more appreciative because Scholes turned his back on the celebrity lifestyle so many of his contemporaries revel in.

'Paul's retirement was typical of the man, low key, he was safe on holiday just so he could avoid any media interviews,' said Ferguson.

'However he won't be able to hide away this time and it will be fantastic for the fans to be able to bid farewell to this exceptional footballer.

'The accolades he's received have been well deserved but for me Paul is one of those players who turns up, plays his football and it is that natural ability that makes Paul unique and revered by many, including myself.

'Now from one great player to another, Eric Cantona. I am going to relish this touchline showdown, one Gaelic mind to another.

'Neither of us will want to lose this one, it is sure to be a great night and a well deserved recognition for Paul.'

Brazilian superstar Pele will be in attendance too in his role as Cosos honorary president. He played for the team during their previous incarnation, when they attracted superstar names from all over the world.

The club eventually crumbled, along with the demise of the North American Soccer League in 1984.

Former Tottenham vice-chairman Paul Kemsley acquired the rights to the Cosmos name in 2009.

He is aiming to secure an MLS franchise by 2013 and is using guest players to fulfil friendlies in order to revive interest in the Cosmos name.

The Background: As United sought opposition for a testimonial to fittingly and financially honour the victims and survivors of Munich, four decades after the crash, Eric Cantona wrote to chairman Martin Edwards revealing his desire to make a one-off playing return at his beloved Old Trafford. The Frenchman, who had retired in May 1997, had unwittingly given the Reds a chance to combine the two events. Cantona's schedule - he had just signed up to play a boxer in the film Mookie - meant that the match had to take place six months after the anniversary, on 18 August 1998.

The Occasion: Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall crooned an acapella version of 'Every Time We Say Goodbye', before the two teams took to the field and formed a guard of honour. On one side, United; the other, a blend of talents from across Europe including Paul Gascoigne, Laurent Blanc and Jean-Pierre Papin who comprised the Eric Cantona European XI. Then out strode Cantona, flanked by his son Raphael, to a rapturous reception from a crowd of 55,121 baying supporters.

As a spectacle, the 90 minutes were typically light-hearted, entertaining testimonial fare, with the show stolen by opposition goalkeeper Pascal Olmeta, who regularly embarked on mazy runs. When he wasn't creating chaos outfield, the Frenchman was conducting the supporters behind the goal and dancing to an increasingly-hectic rendition of 'Fergie, sign him up.' Cantona was Olmeta's team-mate until half-time, when the star of the show switched sides with the score locked at 2-2.

A somewhat busier second period ended 8-4 in United's favour, with the Reds' seventh fittingly scored by the abdicated King. While the defending left much to be desired, the Frenchman's winding run and chipped finish brought the loudest cheer of the evening.

The Aftermath: Cantona took the chance to say a belated goodbye to the supporters with whom he had forged such a tight bond in his five years at Old Trafford. As he struggled with his emotions, he simply said: "I am sorry. I just lost my passion for the game. I gave everything for 10 years. I had five wonderful years here - the best of my career. I love you all. You have given me such a wonderful feeling. Thank you for coming. I hope to see you soon." While the Frenchman had hogged the limelight during ticket sales, the match itself and immediate aftermath, his presence had guaranteed a sell-out crowd and a £1million boost for the testimonial fund which, after deductions, was divided up between those who survived the crash and the dependants of those who died.
