Four away with England

Ben Foster could have an early opportunity to put United's Community Shield disappointment behind him, in England's midweek friendly against Holland.

The Reds keeper looks the most likely to start from a trio of shot-stoppers picked by Fabio Capello - the other two being West Ham's Robert Green and Blackburn's Paul Robinson.

Foster is one of four Reds in the England squad although there is no place for Michael Owen - at least not yet. Capello said of the new United striker, "The door is open. He is young, he is only 29 and he has a fantastic chance to play with a really important team (United) and play in the Champions League. He has to play well and score (for United)."

In other words, if Owen does the business for his club, he'll be back in contention for his country. In the meantime, his fellow Old Trafford forward Wayne Rooney plus defender Rio Ferdinand and midfielder Michael Carrick complete England's United quartet.

Darren Fletcher is also lined up for international duty this week, for Scotland in their World Cup qualifier in Norway. Patrice Evra's France have a qualifier in the Faroe Islands, while Dimitar Berbatov (Bulgaria v Latvia, friendly), Jonny Evans (Northern Ireland v Israel) and Darron Gibson (Republic of Ireland v Australia) could all feature in friendlies.

However, Nani will miss Portugal's trip to Liechtenstein after sustaining a shoulder injury.
Semoga semua menang dan kembali tanpa ada oleh-oleh cedera. Khusus buat foster moga-moga jadi starter dan terus nambah pengalamannya biar nggak ngrogian lagi seperti semalem lawan Chelsea.

Nani arrives for Portugal - I could play on Wednesday!

from AP

Nani is hopeful that he can recover from a dislocated shoulder in time to play for Portugal on Wednesday against Liechtenstein. "I think I can recover in time. We'll see how it turns out," Nani said Monday as he arrived to join the Portuguese squad.

The winger dislocated his left shoulder in a clash with John Terry during Manchester United's Community Shield game against Chelsea on Sunday. Nani scored the opening goal but the game ended level on 2-2 and Chelsea went on to win in a penalty shootout.

"It's painful and it needs treatment," Nani said of his shoulder. "It's not a very serious injury. I need to take care of it and I expect to get better in the coming days."

Nani said he will stay with the Portuguese squad for the friendly game in Vaduz, Liechtenstein.

Youngsters impress on national duty

Tom Cleverley and Febian Brandy both scored twice for England's Under-20s in a rampant 5-0 win over Montenegro at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night.

Brandy put England in front after 13 minutes when he beat the offside trap and finished neatly. The Manchester-born striker then added a second on the stroke of half-time with a rasping volley.

After the break Cleverley, who impressed in a first half in which he'd also missed a penalty, got in on the goalscoring act.

The Reds midfielder grabbed England's third three minutes after the break, and then with eight minutes remaining he skilfully curled a low shot into the bottom corner, before Tope Obadeyi completed the rout in injury time.

It's the perfect preparation for Cleverley, Brandy and co. ahead of next month's FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt.

Elsewhere, Oliver Norwood made his debut for Northern Ireland U21s in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal. Burnley-born Norwood was joined in the side by fellow Reds midfielder Corry Evans.

Northern Ireland reduce Manchester United's defensive issues by sending Jonny Evans back to the club
dailymail.co.uk - 12th August 2009

Nigel Worthington has come to Manchester United's rescue by agreeing to let Jonny Evans return to Old Trafford for treatment, rather than risk aggravating a slight ankle injury against Israel at Windsor Park tonight.

With Nemanja Vidic already ruled out of Sunday's opening Barclays Premier League game with Birmingham, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was eager to safeguard Evans' fitness and ensure he was able to continue alongside Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the champions' defence.

Evans has trained with the rest of the Northern Ireland squad ahead of their World Cup warm-up game, but Worthington went along with a request from United and allowed the Belfast youngster to fly back to Manchester this morning.

Stephen Craigan will partner Aaron Hughes in the middle of defence, with Chris Baird and George McCartney filling the full-back roles.

Rangers midfielder Steve Davis is a surprise absentee from the starting line-up, but record goalscorer David Healy will win his 75th cap, despite suggestions he may be rested after failing to hit the target in Northern Ireland's last five games.

Northern Ireland: Taylor; Baird, Craigan, Hughes, McCartney; Johnson, Clingan, McCann, Brunt; Lafferty, Healy.
