Manchester City consider shock swoop for United flop Victor Valdes as incoming boss Pep Guardiola eyes reunion with goalkeeper

* Victor Valdes made just two first-team appearances for Manchester United
* The former Barcelona goalkeeper endured a miserable time at Old Trafford
* Valdes could reunite with Pep Guardiola at ex-club's rivals Manchester City
* The pair won Champions League and La Liga titles together at Barcelona

Manchester United flop Victor Valdes could be set for a quick return to Manchester ‒ by signing for City.

The former Barcelona stopper endured a miserable time at Old Trafford, making just two first-team appearances, and was eventually shipped out on loan to Standard Liege before being released this summer.

However, new City manager Pep Guardiola - who worked with Valdes at the Nou Camp - is thought to be interested in bringing him back to the north west.

Manchester United flop Victor Valdes endured a miserable time in the Premier League at Old Trafford

The pair won Champions League and La Liga titles together with the Catalan giants and are known to be friends. Despite turning 34, Valdes would be seen as an ideal back-up for No 1, Joe Hart.

Hart's current understudy, Willy Caballero, was signed by previous manager Manuel Pellegrini. And while City have made no plans to lose him, it would be no surprise to see the Argentine team up with his old boss once more should Pellegrini find a new club.

Caballero, 34, is also thought to be attracting interest from clubs in Spain.

City currently have a vacancy in the goalkeeping department after long-serving third-choice Richard Wright was released at the end of the season.

The Englishman was at the club for four years without making an appearance and is now a free agent.

Valdes, signed by United as he recovered from a serious knee injury, suffered a public falling out with then manager Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman accused the Spain international of refusing to play for the Under 21 side - a claim Valdes countered by posting a montage of pictures on Twitter, illustrating how many reserve level games he had appeared in.

In the latter stages of his stint at Old Trafford with relations plumbing new depths, Valdes also suffered the ignominy of not being allowed a locker and was not permitted to train with the Under 21s.

The Spaniard would no doubt be relishing a return to Manchester not only to team up with Guardiola once more but to prove a point to those across the city.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan won't join Manchester United... he's staying at Borussia Dortmund, says club chief Hans-Joachim Watzke

* United's bid to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Dortmund has been rebuffed
* United made enquiries and were willing to offer £18million for the 27-year-old
* Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke poured cold water on move

Manchester United's bid to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund has been rebuffed.

As reported in Sportsmail last week, United made enquiries for the Armenia midfielder who has one year left on contract and were willing to offer £18million for the 27-year-old.

However, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said: 'We have been negotiating with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for four months for him to extend his contract with us.

Manchester United made overtures for Henrikh Mkhitaryn, but their advances were rebuffed

'Now we know that it is not extended, it was never our commitment that Mkhitaryan may leave us prematurely.

'We have intensely discussed the question of an early transfer in all club bodies and came to the conclusion that Mkhitaryan will stay in Dortmund next season.'

Bolehlah Henrikh Mkhitaryan mah.

Everton outline stance on Manchester United and Man City targets

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright and new owner Farhad Moshiri have been working to keep their prized assets at Goodison Park.

Romelu Lukaku and John Stones remain heavily linked with moves to Manchester - with United and City both hoping to sign the England defender - while Ross Barkley's name has featured on the wishlist of both clubs in the recent past.

The Merseyside club are looking to build following their investment and the sacking of Roberto Martinez, but the sale of any of their best players would undermine that effort.

Having successfully kept Leighton Baines at the club in 2013 despite United interest and John Stones last summer when Chelsea and Mourinho came knocking, Toffees chiefs are determined not to relent this time.

After new coach Ronald Koeman made it plain he would like to keep his star players at the club , the chairman spoke in similarly simple terms about the men linked with moves away from the club.

"At the end of the day it will be up to the manager who he wants and who he keeps," he said .

“But have I been working on keeping Rom? Has Farhad been working on keeping Rom? Do we want to keep Rom? 100 per cent we want to keep Rom. That’s where we are. Ross and John Stones too. We want to keep them and we want to inspire them too.”

United are looking to add to the signing of Villareal defender Eric Bailly while City missed out on the capture of Aymeric Laporte when the Frenchman opted to stay at Athletic.

Ibrahimovic agent opens up about Manchester United move

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 's potential move to Manchester United appears to have edged a step closer to reality.

The Swedish striker - a free agent after leaving Paris St Germain this summer - has been linked with the Reds for months.

And his agent Mino Raiola seems to have nailed his colours to the United mast.

Now he is waiting a verdict from his client, who is currently with his national team at Euro 2016.

Raiola, who also represents Reds targets Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, described United on French TV station Telefoot as “a great team with a great coach”.

But he admitted Ibrahimovic has not made up his mind, adding: “I have already decided, now it is up to him. We will see.

"They are really busy with the Euro. Out of respect for the Euro, the country and the coach, he should concentrate on that.”

Man United could launch record-breaking £70m Marco Verratti bid

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are considering to launch a record-breaking summer bid for PSG midfield star Marco Verratti, who has been closely monitored by European top clubs.

The reports from Italian Corriere Dello Sport claim that Man United’s new manager Jose Mourinho is planning to offer the League 1 winners £79m for the 23-year-old Italian star.

It is believed that Man United target Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants his PSG team-mate Verratti to join him at Old Trafford. However, the owners of the French outfit are keen to listen offers for the talented midfielder.

Marco Verratti, who joined Paris Saint-Germain from Pescara back in 2012 and is under contract until 2020, has become a key figure for the League 1 giants but suffered an injury-hit campaign last term.

The talented midfielder is absence at Euro 2016 due to a groin problem. The exclusive reports from Starsport in March revealed that the Old Trafford side were plotting a stunning swoop for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The 34-year-old ace is leaving Parc Des Princes when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Former AC Milan and Inter striker has agreed a 12-month deal with the option of an extra season on wages of £275k-a-week. But the Red Devils will allow him to see out the final weeks of his PSG deal before confirming his arrival.

The agent of Swede superstar, Mino Raiola, will receive a massive £4m loyalty bonus from the League 1 club if he fulfils his contract.

Everton boss Koeman could chase Man Utd midfielder Schneiderlin

Everton boss Ronald Koeman is looking to bring Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to Goodison Park, according to the Daily Mirror.

The France international played under Koeman at Southampton before joining United in a £25million deal last summer and according to the Mirror's report, Koeman will jump at the opportunity to sign Schneiderlin if he becomes available in the summer transfer market.

The 26-year-old's future at United is far from certain following Jose Mourinho's arrival at the club with several reports claiming that Mourinho wants to bring Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford.

Schneiderlin made a total of 39 appearances for the Red Devils last season having joined from the Saints prior to the 2015/16 season.

Mkhitaryan agent 'confident' of Manchester United deal

Midfielder has already told his club Borussia Dortmund that he wants to move to Old Trafford this summer.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan's agent says he's 'confident' the midfielder will sign for Manchester United this summer.

Mino Raiola has already revealed Mkhitaryan has told Borussia Dortmund he wants to leave this summer with United his preferred destination.

The Bundesliga side have so far insisted the 27-year-old - who has a year left on his contract - will be not sold. But Raiola is sure a conclusion will be reached before the start of next season.

He said: “It would be a sin to stop talking. I am a positive guy. If I wasn’t confident of reaching some kind of conclusion, I wouldn’t try.

"I am very proud Manchester United want him and the talks are being held in a good atmosphere but at the moment Dortmund are still saying no."

Manchester United target Pogba told he can leave Juventus

Have a look at the latest Man Utd transfer gossip including the latest on pursuit of French midfielder.

Paul Pogba has been told he can leave Juventus this summer if the Italian side's valuation is met, according to reports.

The 23-year-old is a target for new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho. And Spanish newspaper Marca are reporting the Frenchman could be set to leave - although they believe it's more likely he will sign for Manchester City or Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, the Mirror say Ryan Giggs is finally set to leave the club this week.

His future has been up in the air since Mourinho's appointment but there are reports he will leave Old Trafford to begin his career in management with Nottingham Forest a possible destination.

There is also an update on the future of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the Telegraph with his agent, Mino Raiola, insisting he will continue to talk to the German club in a bid to get the 27-year-old to Old Trafford.

He said: "It would be a sin to stop talking. I am a positive guy. If I wasn’t confident of reaching some kind of conclusion, I wouldn’t try."

Manchester United target Lukaku could stay at Everton

Man Utd were keen on Romelu Lukaku last year and he is represented by Mino Raiola, but the Belgium striker could remain at Everton.

Romelu Lukaku could still stay at Everton despite reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

United were keen on signing Belgium striker Lukaku last year but decided against bidding for the 23-year-old, with Louis van Gaal settling on Wayne Rooney as his first-choice frontman.

Lukaku has repeatedly stated his desire to leave Everton, who finished a pitiful 11th in the Premier League last season, and even revealed he would be open to reuniting with Jose Mourinho , who sold him to the Toffees from Chelsea in 2014.

Mino Raiola, whose clients Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are all interesting United, also represents Lukaku and said the arrival of new manager Ronald Koeman and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri could persuade the goalscorer to remain on Merseyside.

"Everton don’t need the money anymore but Romelu wants to play for a club that can win trophies," Raiola told Sportwereld.

“[However] something’s changed at Everton. There’s a new project. If he leaves, it has to be a good deal for all parties."

Lukaku scored twice in Belgium's 3-0 win over the Republic of Ireland last week and is expected to start in their Group E clash against Sweden on Wednesday.

Lukaku is contracted to Everton until 2019 and United's interest has cooled since Mourinho was appointed, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic expected to join The Reds after Euro 2016.
