Sedangkan tuan rumah Manchester United, di bawah Jose Mourinho, sebelumnya berhasil membawa pulang 3 angka dari kandang Bournemouth, 3-1, sekaligus memuncaki klasemen sementara.

Tell me more… After 94 days away, Premier League football returns to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho’s men look to build on the opening-weekend win at Bournemouth with victory over Southampton, who were held at home by Watford in their first game of the season. Mourinho took plenty of positives from his side’s 3-1 triumph at the Vitality Stadium and, in the first Friday night encounter of the new campaign, the Reds will aim to beat the Saints at home for the first time since January 2013.

Will Paul Pogba be involved? That’s the big question and Mourinho may well keep his cards close to his chest as he plots the introduction of his world-record signing. In other team news, Jesse Lingard may return after missing the win over Bournemouth with an apparent knock picked up in the Community Shield, while Chris Smalling is available again after suspension. Southampton could welcome back Ryan Bertrand (knee) and the Reds are set to face three of their summer signings – Nathan Redmond, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Jeremy Pied.

Who are their star men? Like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Nathan Redmond scored on his Premier League debut at the weekend, bagging a well-taken goal from a corner to rescue a point against Watford. The pacy England Under-21s attacker joined from Norwich City for a fee believed to be around £10million. Saints also have a Euro 2016 winner in their ranks, in the shape of Portugal defender Jose Fonte.

Haven’t I seen their new manager before? You might have. Claude Puel was in charge of Lille when Ryan Giggs scored a hotly-contested quick free-kick for United in a Champions League match in February 2007, after which the Frenchman appeared to urge his players to leave the pitch in protest, though the game continued after a short delay. The 54-year-old, who succeeded Everton-bound Ronald Koeman at Saints in June, has also had managerial spells at Monaco (where he had played for 17 years as a midfielder), Lyon and, most recently, Nice.

Anything else I should know? United have previously played 44 times on a Friday, including two last season – the 1-0 league win away at Aston Villa and the 3-1 FA Cup victory at Derby County.

TEAM NEWS : UNITED V SOUTHAMPTON

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has delivered an update on the latest team news ahead of Friday's Premier League visit of Southampton.

Paul Pogba, the Reds' newest recruit, is ready to play against the Saints with the boss telling MUTV the midfielder is in good enough condition to play "some minutes" and make his second debut for the club almost four and a half years since his first.

"He’s ready to play," declared the boss. "We played against Leicester with players with less training than him and we look at that match as a way to improve them, to accelerate that process. With Paul, it's a bit of the same - not one single minute of any pre-season match or friendly but almost two weeks of work with us. Sometimes with the group, sometimes separately, and the condition is okay to play some minutes and to accelerate the process."

Centre-back Chris Smalling, like the Frenchman, is also now free from suspension and available.

MOURINHO : EVERYTHING STARTS WITH THE FANS

Jose Mourinho says there will be no chance for opponents visiting Manchester United if the Old Trafford supporters provide vocal backing and connect with the team.

The boss is eagerly anticipating his first home league game in charge of the Reds against Southampton on Friday night and appears convinced his team can be just as formidable on their own patch as his previous clubs over the years.

When asked if he can bring the fear factor back to the Theatre of Dreams, he replied: "Not me, but the team, yes. The fans can also help with this too.

"Everything starts there: the relationship between the team and the fans. If a couple of thousand away supporters can be more noisy than 70,000, then we are in trouble. This would mean that there is no connection between the team and the supporters. If there is connection, then I think the factor of being really strong at home has to back.

"Everything starts on the connection between the team and the fans. The way the team plays, the way they behave, the mental approach and, if the fans play [their part], there will be no chance for the opponent."
