Paul Pogba is eager to return for next month’s Manchester derby after sustaining thigh injury against Everton…forcing him to miss their Europa League last-32 tie vs Real Sociedad

* Manchester United have been dealt a big injury blow with games coming quickly
* Midfielder Paul Pogba will miss some crunch matches over the next few weeks
* Frenchman was forced off with a thigh injury late on in the first half vs Everton
* However, Pogba is currently racing to be fit for next month’s Manchester derby

Paul Pogba is racing to be fit for next month’s Manchester derby after he was ruled out for weeks with a thigh injury.

The midfielder limped out of Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Everton on Saturday and scans confirmed he is likely to be sidelined for the rest of February, at least. United travel to City on the first weekend in March.

Pogba is set to miss tonight’s FA Cup fifth-round tie at home to West Ham, both legs of United’s Europa League encounter with Real Sociedad and league games against West Brom, Newcastle and Chelsea.

Paul Pogba sustained a thigh injury late on in the opening period against Everton on Saturday. The Frenchman will miss a 'few weeks' of action after he was forced off with the thigh injury

It is a major blow for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after the Frenchman’s impressive recent form.

‘It’s an injury that will take a few weeks to heal,’ said Solskjaer. ‘We’ll get him back as soon and as safely as we can. Paul has been very important for us and we’re not going to take any risks.’

Solskjaer said Dean Henderson is keen to replace David de Gea as United’s No 1, as he prepares to take over in goal tonight.

Henderson has played against Liverpool and Watford in the Cup this season and was due to step in again even before De Gea’s blunders in the Everton match.

Quote:
GAMES PAUL POGBA IS SET TO MISS

West Ham (H) - FA Cup: February 9

West Brom (A) - PL: February 14

Real Sociedad (A) - EL: February 18

Newcastle United (H) - PL: February 21

Real Sociedad (H) - EL: February 25
But the 23-year-old will sense his best opportunity yet to usurp De Gea since returning from two successful seasons on loan at Sheffield United.

‘He’s not the most patient guy,’ said Solskjaer. ‘He wants to play every game because he knows he will perform well. He’s played well when he’s got the chance. ‘You see his improvement in every game when he plays.’

Meanwhile, 17-year-old winger Shola Shoretire has been promoted to first-team training at United after agreeing his first professional contract.

However, he is racing to return to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side for the Manchester derby

Manchester United fear Paul Pogba could face another TWO WEEKS out due to thigh injury which forced him to limp off against Everton... as midfielder faces race against time to be fit for Chelsea and Man City games

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have been without Pogba since February 6
* Midfielder is set to miss the games against Real Sociedad and Newcastle
* Pogba is facing race against time to be fit to face Chelsea and Manchester City
* United have struggled in Pogba's absence after losing ground in the title race

Manchester United fear Paul Pogba could miss at least another fortnight with the thigh injury that has ruled him out for the previous two games.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have been without Pogba since he limped off in the 3-3 draw against Everton on February 6.

But the World Cup winner is set to miss another two weeks meaning he could be absent for the vital Europa League games against Real Sociedad and the Premier League clash versus Newcastle on Sunday.

Pogba could be available for either of the two crucial league games against Chelsea on February 28 or the Manchester derby a week later but no definitive timescale is being put on his return.

Paul Pogba sustained a thigh injury in the first-half against Everton on February 6. The French midfielder could face two more weeks on the sidelines due to the thigh injury. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope to have Pogba available to face Chelsea and Manchester City

United have stuttered in Pogba's absence, drawing against the Toffees in a game they were twice leading, needing extra time to beat West Ham in the FA Cup before recording a 1-1 draw against relegation threatened West Brom on Sunday.

And his eventual return to fitness will come as a timely boost to Solskjaer, whose side's title tilt has faltered in recent weeks.

Pogba enters the final year of his United deal in the summer and will delay any decision over his future until the end of the season.

Paul Pogba likely to miss 'a few weeks' MORE with a thigh injury, reveals Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Frenchman faces prospect of sitting out the Manchester derby and visit of West Ham

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Paul Pogba will miss a few more weeks through injury
* Pogba hasn't played since coming off in the 3-3 league draw with Everton
* Solskjaer also confirmed that Daniel James took a knock against Real Sociedad

Paul Pogba is set for another extended spell on the sidelines as he battles to recover from his latest injury.

That was the news from Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who also revealed that Daniel James picked up a knock in the Red Devils' 0-0 draw against Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday.

Pogba, who has been in imperious form for United recently, has not featured since limping off in the 3-3 league draw against Everton on February 6 with a thigh injury.

Paul Pogba's thigh injury means he will miss 'a few weeks' more says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Solskjaer said Edinson Cavani, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek may be fit for Sunday

He has missed three games in all competitions, and Solskjaer's troubling assessment suggested the Frenchman may miss several more yet.

'Paul is still out for a few weeks,' the Norwegian told BT Sport after the final whistle at Old Trafford.

Manchester United take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday in a crucial match for both teams' Champions League ambitions.

While Pogba is certain to miss out, Solskjaer is hoping for better news on other absentees including Scott McTominay, Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek. All three have also missed United's last three matches through injury.

'Scott, Donny, Edinson we hope they can be available for the weekend,' he said.

'We will have to check on him (James) tonight.'

Phil Jones could miss the ENTIRE season due to a long-term knee injury after another setback, warns Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Manchester United defender last playing in January 2020

* Phil Jones last played for Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round last term
* In the summer, the centre back underwent a knee operation to solve his injury
* But the 28-year-old is still being plagued by the issue and could the entire season

Phil Jones injury hell at Manchester United is set to continue with the centre back possibly missing the rest of the season due to a long-standing knee problem.

The centre back has not played for the Red Devils since January 26, 2020 - a 6-1 FA Cup fourth-round win at Tranmere Rovers, in which he scored in.

Jones underwent a knee operation in June and Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had initially hoped he would be fit for December.

Phil Jones is set to miss Manchester United's whole season due to a long-term knee injury. Jones has not played for United since their FA Cup fourth-round 6-1 win at Tranmere last term. The centre back scored in that fixture but has not played since that January 26, 2020 victory

That time-frame got pushed back and speaking at the beginning of February, Solskjaer revealed he was hoping he'd 'get his fitness back sooner, rather than later' and demonstrated his faith by registering him in his Premier League and Europa League squad lists.

However, speaking on Tuesday; Solskjaer provided a bleaker outlook for the 28-year-old - hinting he may not feature for the club until next season now.

Asked if the England defender could feature this season, Solskjaer said: 'With Phil, obviously we hope so but he's working really hard.

'He's had a couple of setbacks and it's just that kind of injury that you have to be patient and give him time. I know all about knee injuries.

Jones has been beset by a long-term knee injury and underwent surgery in the summer. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed the latest update about Jones on Tuesday

'I'm not sure (when he will be back). How long is a piece of rope? That's how I felt as well when I came back.

'So (we'll) give him absolutely every chance to get back this season. If not, hopefully for the start of next.'

Jones has played 224 times for United since signing in 2011 and has won the 2012-13 Premier League title, the 2016 FA Cup and 2017 Europa League in that time.

Marcus Rashford avoids ankle ligament damage after limping off in derby win at City - but the Man United forward remains a doubt for Europa League showdown with AC Milan

* Scans revealed Marcus Rashford has not suffered ligament damage in his ankle
* The Manchester United forward limped off with an injury during the win at City
* Rashford is now a doubt for Thursday's Europa League clash with AC Milan
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have few options with Edinson Cavani also a doubt

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has not suffered any ligament damage in his ankle after picking up an injury in Sunday's derby win at City.

The 23-year-old was forced off with the problem in the second half at the Etihad and replaced by Mason Greenwood.

It is understood scans showed that Rashford has not suffered any significant damage but is still struggling with heavy bruising and swelling around the joint.

Although it will come as good news for United that Rashford's injury is not a serious one, the forward is still considered a major doubt for Thursday's Europa League clash with AC Milan.

Scans revealed that Marcus Rashford has not suffered ligament damage in his ankle. The forward limped off during United's win at City and is now a doubt to face AC Milan

Rashford has been a vital figure for United this season, playing in all 43 games and contributing with 18 goals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be left with few options in attack for their game with Milan as there remains concerns around Edinson Cavani's fitness too.

The Uruguayan striker was absent for Sunday's victory over City through injury and it remains to be seen if he'll be available to face Milan.

Cavani, meanwhile, is set to hold talks with United about his future amid claims he wants to leave Old Trafford for Boca Juniors.

Reports in South America on Monday said Cavani has decided to join the Argentine club on a three-year contract and take a pay cut rather than extend his current deal at United.

The 34-year-old striker signed a short-term contract until the end of the season worth £9million when he arrived at Old Trafford as a free agent on deadline day in October.

Edinson Cavani (right) may also not be fit for Thursday's Europa League clash with Milan. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be left short of options in attack if Rashford and Cavani miss the tie

It has the option of a 12-month extension which has to be agreed by both parties, and United were planning talks with Cavani and Walter Guglielmone, his agent and brother, before Monday's developments.

The club are said to be keen to keep the former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli player next season, but Cavani has yet to commit and is understood to want assurances over his role.

Speaking last month, manager Solskjaer said: 'I can only say Edinson has done well. We'll sit down and speak with him in the near future to see his plans and our plans.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to welcome FIVE key players back from injury - including Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani - ahead of make-or-break week for Manchester United in the Europa League and FA Cup

* Manchester United face a crucial week after beating West Ham 1-0 on Sunday
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side face AC Milan in Europe then Leicester in the FA Cup
* United are set to welcome back five key first-team players for these two games
* Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial are all set to return from injury
* Donny van de Beek is set to return after being sidelined along with David de Gea

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw Manchester United kick off a big week by taking a major step towards Champions League qualification, then revealed that up to five of his stars are ready to return to action.

United's 1-0 win over fifth-placed West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday created a nine-point gap between the two clubs and went a long way towards securing a top-four finish.

Solskjaer's side now turn their attention to Thursday's Europa League last-16 second leg against AC Milan at the San Siro and next weekend's FA Cup quarter-final away to Leicester before the international break, with the United boss hopeful that Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, David de Gea, Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek will be available.

Pogba has missed the last 10 games with a thigh injury, Cavani and Van de Beek have had muscle problems, De Gea will return to training on Monday after self-isolating following paternity leave in Spain, and Martial missed Sunday's win with a hip injury.

'Injury-wise I hope we have four or five players back for that game (Milan),' said Solskjaer.

'It's very likely that Edinson and Anthony are fit, Donny hopefully as well. Paul even might make the trip and David is back from isolation. That's more numbers.

Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek (left to right) are three who could return. Anthony Martial and David de Gea are expected to return in a crucial week for United

'You could see today we even had two goalkeepers on the bench so we need them back.'

Looking ahead to what will be a key week in United's season, Solskjaer added: 'We want to improve on last season, get to a final and move up the table.

'This week was always going be massive. We're starting to build some momentum in the league, and we opened the gap further to West Ham which is important for us.'

The game was settled by a 53rd minute own-goal by Craig Dawson after United struggled to break down their opponents.

'As expected, they are always going to make it hard for you,' said Solskjaer.

'We could have been more comfortable towards the end as we had a few decent chances to finish it off. We like to make it hard for ourselves.

'In the first 15 minutes we gave the ball away every time we attacked. You have to not open up stupidly as you know they are a threat on the counter-attack so we kept composed and organised.

'We created massive opportunities but the final pass or shot wasn't good enough. It could have been two or three easily. But then it could have ended up in our net at the end as they are a threat.'

West Ham lacked ambition until they went behind, and manager David Moyes admitted that his tactics didn't work as planned.

'The way we set up maybe didn't quite work. We changed it a bit at half-time and again later on,' he said.

'We are upset. I'm not happy we've lost because I felt we had a chance to come here and put on a show. I don't enjoy losing 1-0 which shows how far we have come.'

Anthony Martial hands Manchester United a fresh scare after limping out of France's World Cup qualifier... with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already facing up to Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood injuries

* Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could face a shortage of strikers
* Anthony Martial was forced off with injury during France's World Cup qualifier
* Marcus Rashford pulled out of the England squad due to a foot injury this week
* Mason Greenwood also withdrew from the England U21 camp through injury

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial was forced off with injury in France's game with Kazakhstan, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer potentially facing a forward crisis.

Marcus Rashford pulled out of the England squad with a foot injury earlier this week, while Mason Greenwood also withdrew from the U21 camp.

Martial went down with a knee injury in the second half of France's World Cup qualifier on Sunday and was unable to continue. The forward appeared to get his studs caught in the turf and looked in some pain as he hobbled off.

Solskjaer will be hoping it is not a serious problem, especially because he is already short of striking options.

Should Martial be sidelined, Edinson Cavani would be United's only fit and available forward - and he is just returning from injury.

United face Brighton on Sunday before the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Granada.

They then face Tottenham ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford, with Premier L eague games against Burnley, Leeds and Liverpool to follow.

Martial's injury leaves United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer facing a potential forward crisis. Marcus Rashford (left) pulled out of the England squad this week while Mason Greenwood (right) withdrew from the U21 camp with injury

Martial has suffered a frustrating season in front of goal, netting just four times in the Premier League and seven in all competitions.

However, he has been a key part of Solskjaer's squad this season, regularly interchanging with Cavani in the central striking role, with Bruno Fernandes playing behind them.

Rashford has occupied the wide-left position for the majority of the season, with Solskjaer regularly rotating his right-sided player. Dan James has started four of the last five league games in that role.

Amad Diallo can also play on the right or left, but is yet to make his Premier League debut. The 18-year-old scored on his first appearance at Old Trafford in the 1-1 draw with AC Milan.

Manchester United ace Anthony Martial in race to be fit for clash against Brighton this weekend with France forward 'set to miss World Cup qualifier in Bosnia due to knee injury'

* The injured Anthony Martial may have handed Manchester United a dilemma
* Martial limped off with a knee issue during France's 2-0 win over Kazakhstan
* RMC have claimed the ace will miss France's next World Cup qualifier this week
* It appears the United man is facing a race to be fit for the clash with Brighton

Anthony Martial faces a race to be fit for Manchester United's clash against Brighton due to the injury he has picked up on international duty.

The 25-year-old ace was forced off the field in France's 2-0 win over Kazakhstan in World Cup qualifying with an apparent issue with his left knee.

RMC Sport have claimed that Martial will miss out entirely on their next fixture against Bosnia on Wednesday - and is therefore at risk of being absent this weekend.

Martial has enjoyed a slight return to form in recent weeks and recorded an assist for the world champions before limping off with the aid of a physio.

Footage showed Martial appearing to catch his studs in the turf before feeling immediate discomfort.

It has been reported that the forward has sustained fibula damage - and it is not known how long the former Monaco man is expected to remain sidelined.

Anthony Martial is in a race to be fit for Manchester United's next game due to a knee problem. Martial reportedly picked up fibula damage to his left knee while in action for France last week

United return to action after the international break with another crucial top-flight encounter and are facing a selection dilemma in attack.

Martial has missed four games this month for his club due to a hip injury and there are question marks over the availability of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Rashford pulled out of the England senior squad with a foot setback last week while youngster Greenwood withdrew from the U21 camp.

United have a selection headache with Martial just one of several strikers who may be missing. Marcus Rashford pulled out of the England squad this week while Mason Greenwood withdrew from the U21 camp with injury. The crisis facing boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer comes before a crucial period in United's season

Edinson Cavani may well be United's only available frontman - although the veteran has only recently returned from his own injury woes.

Despite the headache now posed to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Martial has largely struggled to replicate his previous heroics for United this campaign.

He has netted 78 goals in 258 appearances at Old Trafford across just over five seasons, but only seven have arrived this term.

United are rapidly approaching a crucial run of fixtures that may well decide whether their season will be judged as a success or not.

The first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Granada awaits after Brighton.

After that, they will then take on Tottenham ahead of the second leg, before facing Burnley, Leeds and Liverpool.

Didier Deschamps has eased Manchester United's fears over Anthony Martial's injury on France duty.

The winger was forced off in the 59th minute of France's 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Kazakhstan on Sunday with a knee problem.

Martial looked set to miss out on his side's qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina tonight, making him a doubt for United's clash against Brighton.

But France boss Deschamps said the injury is not serious and suggested there was a chance he could play this evening.

'Anthony has a small issue on his knee. Nothing is decided yet [as to whether he can play against Bosnia-Herzegovina],' he said.

'He won’t be taking part in the training session a bit later. We’ll see tomorrow (Wednesday). Anything serious has been dismissed.

'We’ve run some tests, but there’s still the pain, and having travelled as long as we have, that hasn’t helped.'

Martial started France's victory on Sunday and provided the assist for Ousmane Dembele's opening goal in the 19th minute.

He received a pass from Paul Pogba on the turn and dragged Kazakhstan's defenders out of position, before laying off for Dembele to smash home.

The United forward almost got a goal of his own in the 43rd minute when he tried to get on the end of a Thomas Lemar cross with a stooping header, only for Serhiy Malyi to produce an incredible clearance.

Martial was given treatment for a knee problem after appearing to get his studs caught in the turf and was replaced by Kylian Mbappe just before the hour mark.

Anthony Martial's (right) knee injury on France duty is 'not serious', says Didier Deschamps. The winger looked to be a doubt for United after limping off in France's win against Kazakhstan. Deschamps has suggested Martial could play for France against Bosnia-Herzegovina tonight

The winger had only just returned from a hip injury which kept him out for four United games earlier this month.

But Deschamps's update will give the Red Devils hope he can feature in their crucial Premier League match against Brighton on Sunday.

Martial remains an important part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad, despite struggling to hit the heights of his career-best 23 goals last campaign. This season he has seven goals and eight assists in all competitions.

United are second in the table with eight games left to play, just a point above third-placed Leicester. They face Granada in the Europa League quarter-finals next week.

France are top of their World Cup qualifying group with four points after their first two fixtures but could only manage a 1-1 draw with Ukraine in their opening match.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Anthony Martial could MISS the rest of the season with knee injury while defender Eric Bailly has tested positive for Covid-19

* Red Devils forward Martial sprained his knee playing for France vs Kazakhstan
* France boss Didier Deschamps had insisted that the injury was 'nothing serious'
* Centre half Bailly has tested positive and is out of the country at the moment
* The 26-year-old Bailly had been on international duties with the Ivory Coast

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Anthony Martial could miss the rest of the season with a sprained knee and Eric Bailly has tested positive for Covid-19.

Martial was injured on international duty for France and missed Manchester United's win over Brighton last night.

'It looks a bad one,' said Solskjaer. 'If we get him back before the end of the season I'll be surprised. We've lost a very important player there.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted forward Anthony Martial could be out for the season. Martial sprained his knee on international duty for France against Kazakhstan on March 28. France boss Didier Deschamps initially played down the injury but it looks significantly worse. Manager Solskjaer described the prognosis as 'very disappointing' and admitted it looked bad

Ivory Coast defender Bailly also was also absent, and Solskjaer added: 'Eric won't be with us for a little while. He's tested positive for Covid and isn't back in the country yet.'

United suffered another setback when Marcus Rashford, who pulled out of the England squad with an ankle injury, limped off in the 72nd minute last night after scoring United's equaliser.

'Marcus got caught with a tackle and he couldn't carry on,' said Solskjaer. 'You just hope he can recover from it. He had to come off, but he's a tough one.'

The United boss paid tribute to match-winner Mason Greenwood after admitting that he had made his displeasure clear to the players after a limp first-half display.

'It's a header inside the six-yard box and that's what we need more from Mason,' said Solskjaer. He's learned from Edinson (Cavani).

'We know how wonderful a talent he is and when he can add those goals he'll really be a good 'un.

He also revealed Eric Bailly (left) has tested positive for Covid-19 and is out of the country

'We had to come in at half-time and compose ourselves as we didn't create much after they scored. Sometimes after international breaks it takes time – and then maybe the fireworks have to be lit at half-time.

'Sometimes you just have to raise your voice and sometimes be calm and composed. It doesn't matter what I did today, what matters is that we got the half time to talk things through.'

Greenwood confirmed that both Solskjaer and captain Harry Maguire had their say at the interval before United came from behind to win 2-1.

'Ole said his part and Harry said his part,' said the teenage striker. 'He (Maguire) is vocal and he told the lads we can do better, and that's what we did second half.'

Brighton manager Graham Potter felt his team could have been awarded a penalty for Maguire's challenge on Danny Welbeck when the scores were level.

'When it was live I thought it was a penalty, then I suppose it's the clear and obvious debate,' said Potter. If Mike Dean had given it, I don't think VAR would have overruled it. We're disappointed to come away with nothing.'
