Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a 'miserable coward who indulges his violent tendencies' - and isn't as 'fierce and strong' as he claims, say PETA, after AC Milan striker was accused of shooting a captive lion and importing its skin, skull and jaw as a trophy

* Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been criticised by animal rights group PETA
* The striker allegedly shot and killed a captive lion in South Africa back in 2011
* The AC Milan frontman then imported its skin, jaw and skull, it has been claimed
* PETA described him as a 'miserable coward who indulges his violent tendencies'

Animal rights group PETA have slammed Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a 'miserable coward who indulges his violent tendencies' after he was accused of shooting a captive lion in South Africa in 2011 before importing its skin, skull and jaw as a trophy.

Swedish outlet Expressen claimed the AC Milan striker, who has often likened himself to the wild animal, gained a hunting licence and, less than a year later, shot and killed the creature.

Lions have been officially classified as 'vulnerable' by the Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species and the forward has been heavily criticised in his homeland.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been called a 'miserable coward who indulges his violent tendencies' by animal rights group PETA after allegedly shooting and killing a captive lion in 2011

The 39-year-old has now also been condemned by animal rights group PETA.

A statement from the American organisation read: 'Zlatan Ibrahimovic likes to refer to himself as a lion, fierce and strong - yet his pleasure in gunning down lions and other animals proves him to be a miserable coward who indulges his violent tendencies.

'It takes no skill or strength to corner and shoot a captive animal who never stood a chance of escaping, fighting back, or surviving.

'Anyone with a conscience would be appalled by the idea of murdering animals for a thrill or putting their body parts on display - and Ibrahimovic needs to recognise this and reject trophy hunting.'

Ibrahimovic, 39, has a large tattoo of a roaring lion etched across his back (pictured above). PETA said anyone with a conscience would be appalled by the idea of murdering animals for thrill and called on the AC Milan striker to reject trophy hunting

Hunting lions in South Africa is legal, provided the correct permits have been given.

As part of their explosive expose, Expressen examined a total of 82 hunters from Sweden who have looked to take home a trophy.

They claim from a source that the lion shot by Ibrahimovic spent over a year in an enclosure before it was released - elements of its carcass were reportedly then shipped back to his Malmo home.

The Swedish newspaper contacted Ibrahimovic for comment but have received no reply.

The former Manchester United and Barcelona forward has a large tattoo of a roaring lion etched on his back.

Those who carry out trophy hunting are said to choose top category animals, such as a lion, when heading to safaris.

There are multiple organisations across Africa which provide the experience for rich people with an interest from abroad.

'Canned' hunting, where an animal is placed in an enclosed area with no chance of escape, is banned in South Africa - but captive-bred lion hunting is permitted.

A report from the International Fund for Animal Welfare says that between 2004 and 2014, 1.7million animals were killed for their trophy.

Ibrahimovic Bisa Terhindar dari Skors, Asalkan ...
Novitasari Dewi Salusi - Sepakbola

Jakarta - Zlatan Ibrahimovic terancam hukuman setelah dikartu merah akhir pekan lalu.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 'is facing a three-year ban which could END his career due to investment in Malta-based betting company', claims bombshell report in Sweden... as it's alleged country's FA had to stop him playing at the 2018 World Cup

* Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in hot water over his reported association with Bethard
* Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet say that Ibrahimovic's company Unknown AB own 10 per cent of the shares of Bethard
* The report adds that the Swedish Football Association have been aware of this case for three years
* FIFA and UEFA regulations do not allow players participating in their competitions to have financial interests in gambling companies

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could face a three-year ban - and perhaps an early end to his football career - because of his partnership with a Malta-based betting company, according to reports coming out of his native Sweden.

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet state that through his company Unknown AB, Sweden and AC Milan striker Ibrahimovic owns 10 per cent of the shares of Bethard, a gambling site with offices registered in Malta.

The report also details that the Swedish Football Association have been aware of the problem for three years and it is the reason the talismanic forward wasn't called up for the 2018 World Cup, though he did retire from international football in 2016 until returning last month.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could face a three-year ban from football due to being a partner of a Malta-based betting company, according to reports from Sweden. Ibrahimovic was announced as a co-owner and ambassador for Bethard back in 2018

His participation in the company could reportedly land him with a three-year ban or a hefty fine, in an affair which is being closely followed by both FIFA and UEFA.

FIFA and UEFA do not allow players participating in their competitions to have financial interests in gambling companies.

The report adds that Ibrahimovic's company is the fourth largest owner in Bethard, which according to the latest available annual report in 2019 made a profit after tax of £25.79m.

It details that Ibrahimovic may have violated FIFA's rules during March's World Cup qualifier against Georgia and in the Europa League qualifier against Shamrock Rovers in September 2020.

Ibrahimovic was announced as an ambassador and co-owner of Bethard in 2018, and said: 'I have obviously been intensively courted by betting companies throughout my career, but up until now I have not been presented to anything that has triggered me.

'With Bethard, there was something different. It's a company with Swedish roots, the founders are from my home town and they are true challengers who really wants to do things differently'.

FIFA's ethical regulations state that anyone who violates their rules will be punished by a fine and a possible suspension from all football-related activities for a maximum of three years, while UEFA's regulations are less clear when it comes to punishment.

Ibrahimovic turns 40 in October and would almost certainly be forced to retire if he was handed the maximum ban of three years.

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet state that through his company Unknown AB, Ibrahimovic owns 10 per cent of the shares of Bethard

When the story originally came to light in March 2018, general secretary of the Swedish Football Association Hakan Sjjstrand said: 'According to FIFA's regulations and code of ethics, no player may directly or indirectly own shares in betting companies.

'I stick to the facts and can only account for what applies to all nations and players who will participate in the World Cup.'

When approached this week about Ibrahimovic's return to the national team and therefore possible punishment in this case, Sjostrand said: 'I do not speculate on possible sanctions.

'But of course continue to push for clarity in Fifa's regulations as there is frankly a lot of ambiguity in how it should be interpreted.'

In an email, Bethard CEO Erik Sharp said: 'These are questions that should be asked to FIFA.

'We have an agreement with Zlatan that we follow and if problems arise, we will handle it together with him.'

FIFA and UEFA refused to comment to Aftonbladet, who have also approached Ibrahimovic's representatives for comment. Sportsmail has contacted Ibrahimovic's agent, Mino Raiola, for comment.

The news story comes as the 39-year-old is set to extend his career by another year, with a new contract at AC Milan until June 2022 likely to be signed in the coming days.

Ibrahimovic was also in hot water this week after images of an alleged Covid-19 breach in a restaurant in Lombardy emerged, though his entourage say it was a 'work meeting.'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic signs new one-year deal at AC Milan that will ensure the Swedish striker continues playing at the San Siro after he turns FORTY

* Zlatan Ibrahimovic has committed to AC Milan for the 2021-22 season
* The Sweden striker turns 40 in October but has been in excellent form this term
* Ibrahimovic has scored 17 goals from 25 matches across all competitions
* He admits he would stay 'for life' at the San Siro if he could after penning deal

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has penned a new one-year deal at AC Milan that will see him play on at the San Siro beyond his 40th birthday.

The striker has been in excellent form during an Indian summer to his career, with his 17 goals from 25 matches having helped put Milan back into the title picture in Serie A this term.

Pictured signing a new deal, Ibrahimovic announced his new deal on Twitter with the caption 'The saga continues.'

The Swedish striker's new deal will take him beyond his 40th birthday at the San Siro

'I feel really happy. I've been waiting for this day. I'm staying for another year. It's what matters and it's what's most important,' Ibrahimovic said

'I've always said that playing for AC Milan is like being at home. I am really happy with the way the club makes me feel, everyone that works here, my team-mates and the coach and the fans who I miss a lot in the stadium.'

Ibrahimovic rejoined Milan for a second spell in January 2020 in a six-month deal, having previously played for the Rossoneri between 2010 and 2012, including a year while on loan from Barcelona.

Despite dabbling with retirement last summer, the striker decided to play on for another season and his form this campaign has convinced the former Manchester United striker to continue until at least the end of the 2021-22 season.

Ibrahimovic told AC Milan his relationship with the manager and fans convinced him to stay. The striker has enjoyed an excellent season scoring 17 goals from 25 appearances so far. Ibrahimovic has bagged over 500 goals during a wonderful career for the Swedish striker

Ibrahimovic's form has been so good it has convinced him to end a five-year retirement from the Swedish international set-up and he will be hoping to secure a place in the squad for the European Championship this summer.

For now though the 39-year-old, who turns 40 in October, is delighted to have agreed a new deal, insisting his relationship with the fans and manager Stefano Pioli makes him want to stay at the club for the rest of his life.

'This is like being at home. I would stay for the rest of my life if I could, he added. 'From the very first day, working with coach [Stefano] Pioli has been really easy because he has the right mentality.

'He has this energy each day that transforms the team because he wants to get the most out of the team.

'I am really happy with how the club makes me feel.'

Ibrahimovic started his career at Malmo in 1999 and has a glittering CV which has also seen him play for Ajax, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, LA Galaxy as well as Milan's city rivals Inter.

Having scored over 500 goals across over 800 appearances in his career, Ibrahimovic has also earned 11 league titles.

One of those came with Milan in 2011 but he faces a tough task to add to that this season, with his side in second place 10 points behind Inter with just six matches to play.

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in hot water as UEFA launch 'disciplinary investigation' into the Swedish star's alleged 'financial interest' in a betting company after reports he might face a 'three-year ban which could END his career'

* UEFA has launched a 'disciplinary investigation' on striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic

* He has been reported to own a 10 per cent stake in Malta-based Bethard
* FIFA and UEFA regulations do not allow players participating in their competitions to have financial interests in gambling companies

UEFA has launched 'a disciplinary investigation' into Zlatan Ibrahimovic's alleged part-ownership of a betting company.

European football's governing body has appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to establish whether Ibrahimovic has violated any of its betting regulations.

The Sweden and AC Milan striker, 39, has been reported to own a 10 per cent stake in Bethard, a Malta-based gambling website, through his company Unknown AB.

A UEFA statement read: 'In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR), a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has today been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by Mr. Zlatan Ibrahimovic for having an alleged financial interest in a betting company.'

Uefa's disciplinary regulations state players should not have a financial interest in betting.

Reports in Sweden earlier this month suggested Zlatan could face a 'three-year ban' which could perhaps put an early end to his football career.

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported details that the Swedish Football Association have been aware of the problem for three years and it is the reason the talismanic forward wasn't called up for the 2018 World Cup, though he did retire from international football in 2016 until returning last month.

The former Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain striker has recently signed a new contract extension that will run until his 40th birthday.

He has had a successful season in front of goal, scoring 17 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for AC Milan.

However, this is not the first time he has reportedly been in hot water this month.

He was reportedly pictured in a Milan restaurant earlier this month while the city was in a coronavirus lockdown.

Italian news website Fanpage.it published photos it says were taken at lunchtime on Sunday, April 11, of the Milan forward with friends, including former team-mate Ignazio Abate, all without masks and surrounded by wine glasses, in the restaurant which should have been closed to on-site diners.

That was last day of lockdown in the Lombardy region where Milan is located and several other regions in the country with improving Covid statistics.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic fined £45,000 by UEFA for having 'a financial interest' in a Malta-based betting company... with AC Milan receiving a further £21,000 fine for striker's involvement

* Organisation also revealed his club AC Milan have been hit with a £21,000 fine

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been fined £45,000 fine by UEFA for his involvement in a betting company.

The 39-year-old striker has been reported to own a 10 per cent stake in Bethard, a Malta-based gambling website, through his company Unknown AB.

It is against UEFA regulations to have a financial interest in a gambling company, and the organisation announced it has fined Ibrahimovic as well as his club AC Milan.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been fined £45,000 by UEFA for involvement in a gambling company. The organisation also announced they have fined the striker's club AC Milan £21,000. Ibrahimovic became a co-owner of Bethard in 2018 but has now been punished by UEFA

UEFA said: 'The Chairman of the UEFA Appeals Body today took the following decisions:

'To fine Mr. Zlatan Ibrahimovic €50,000 for violating Article 12(2)(b) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR), i.e. for having a financial interest in a betting company.

'The Chairman of the UEFA Appeals Body also issued Mr. Ibrahimovic with a directive aimed at ceasing the player's association with the relevant betting company.

'Finally, the Chairman of the UEFA Appeals Body decided to warn and fine AC Milan €25,000 for violating Article 12(2)(b) of the UEFA DR (in connection with Article 8 of the UEFA DR) for its player, Mr. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, having a financial interest in a betting company.'

Ibrahimovic was revealed as an ambassador and co-owner of Bethard in 2018, with it recently reported that the Swede's company is the fourth largest owner in Bethard.

The 39-year-old will miss this summer's Euros after being ruled out with a knee injury

'I have obviously been intensively courted by betting companies throughout my career, but up until now I have not been presented to anything that has triggered me,' Ibrahimovic said in 2018.

'With Bethard, there was something different. It's a company with Swedish roots, the founders are from my home town and they are true challengers who really wants to do things differently'.

Last month, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that the Swedish Football Association have been aware of the situation for the last three years, and it was the reason that Ibrahimovic was not called up for the 2018 World Cup.

The striker was set to feature for his country at this summer's Euros, after an impressive season for his club in Serie A.

However, a knee injury has ruled Ibrahimovic out of the tournament and it remains to be seen whether he will play for Sweden again in the future.

'All these haters started to like me': Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he 'had fun' proving his doubters wrong during his stint with Man United in the Premier League... and believes he made 'the right choice' to move to Old Trafford

* Zlatan Ibrahimovic has discussed his two-year stint with Manchester United
* The Swedish striker said he 'had fun' in England as he proved his 'haters' wrong
* He hailed the Premier League's 'amazing atmosphere' after arriving in 2016
* Ibrahimovic has no regrets about the move and said it was 'the right choice'

Former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic admits he enjoyed his two-season stint in the Premier League because it allowed him to silence his 'haters'.

The outspoken Swedish forward took England by storm during his brief stint at Old Trafford between 2016 and 2018 - netting 28 goals in his first campaign, prolonging his impressive scoring record across a number of major leagues.

He brought a bullish attitude to United's team and was a huge personality in the dressing room - though there were some who questioned whether Ibrahimovic could step up and deliver quality after arriving in his mid-thirties.

Speaking to ESPN's The Gab & Juls Show podcast, the 40-year-old said he relished proving his critics wrong and performing at a high level, admitting negativity 'brings out the best of me'.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted he enjoyed shutting up his 'haters' at Manchester United. The veteran forward said he 'had fun' at Old Trafford as he won three trophies in the short stint

'I had fun,' he said. 'I really enjoyed because when I came, everybody was against it. And then in England, they didn't like me.

'All these haters, after three months, they started to like me, I didn't like them anymore. I like people when they hate you because then they bring out the better of you. I had fun. [It] is a great competition, [an] amazing atmosphere.'

Ibrahimovic's time at United was short but still a successful one as he scored nearly 30 goals and finished with three trophies under Jose Mourinho.

Ibrahimovic says he made the right choice and called United 'the best club in England'

Now at AC Milan during the twilight of his career, he does not regret his decision to join the club - who he called 'the best in England' - and believes he made 'the right choice'.

'I'm happy I played for United, which I think is the best team in England,' he said. 'And I think it was the right choice to go to Manchester United.

'I think I came in a good moment. Because it's easy to come to a club when the success is already there. It's more difficult when you come and the challenge is different. And then if you manage to have a success, you're part of the story. So the fans [were] great to me. And I really enjoyed [it]. A lot of things happened.'

Ibrahimovic came to United with a huge reputation after blitzing 156 goals in 180 games at PSG, before proving his class at AC Milan, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Ajax.

After leaving United, he joined the MLS to play for LA Galaxy. He scored 53 goals in 58 games and then sealed a return to AC Milan, where he has featured 72 times - netting 36 times - as he continues to defy his ageing years.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 'set to sign fresh one-year extension at AC Milan' as the Swedish star commits to playing until at least the age of 41 despite having knee surgery at the end of last season

* Milan 'are set to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a fresh one-year contract extension'
* The Swedish striker has now 'committed to playing at least until the age of 41'
* Ibrahimovic was ruled out for eight months in May after receiving knee surgery
* The Serie A champions were keen to retain his leadership according to reports

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will sign a one-year contract extension at Serie A champions AC Milan, according to reports.

The striker's San Siro contract expired at the end of June, a month after he went under the knife to repair damage caused to his left knee.

The surgery is expected to rule the Swedish star out for eight months, Sportsmail reported in May.

But Ibrahimovic is now set to sign a fresh year-long extension at AC Milan, which will see him continue playing until at least the age of 41, according to The Athletic.

The Italian giants were reportedly keen to retain his leadership both on and off the pitch, as they look to win back-to-back Serie A titles for the first time since 1993-94 next campaign.

Ibrahimovic also contributed eight goals and three assists in 23 league appearances last season.

Not expected to return until 2023 at the earliest, the forward informed fans of his knee surgery in May via Instagram.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to sign a one year contract extension at AC Milan according to reports. The Swedish striker was ruled out for eight months in May after having surgery on his left knee. The Serie A champions were reportedly eager to retain Ibrahimovic's leadership next season

He said: 'For the past six months I played without an ACL in my left knee.

'Swollen knee for six months. I was only able to train with the team 10 times in the last six months.

'Took more than 20 injections in six months. Emptied the knee once a week for six months. Painkillers every day for six months.

'Barely slept for six months because of the pain. Never suffered so much on and off the pitch.'

The former Manchester United, Inter, PSG and Barcelona star admitted last year that he feared retirement whilst opening up on an Italian talk show.

'I want to play as long as possible,' he said. 'As long as I have that adrenaline, I will continue.'
