Manchester United drop out of the top three of Deloitte's football rich list for the first time since 2013 after revenue fell by £118MILLION as Europe's biggest clubs face a £2BILLION price for the Covid crisis

* Coronavirus pandemic will cost Europe's top clubs almost £2billion
* Football Money League shows top 20 clubs lost around £975m in 2019-20
* Factors include the lack of spectators and effect on broadcast income
* Some of latter will be made up in 2020-21 accounts and deferred prize money
* Ongoing effects of virus see drop in revenue projected to reach £1.75bn

Manchester United have dropped out of Deloitte's football rich list for the first time in eight years as the ongoing effects of the Covid pandemic sees the drop in revenue projected to reach £1.75billion for Europe's biggest clubs.

It sees United drop behind European champions Bayern Munich into fourth place, with their revenue down by £118.1m, 19 per cent on the 2018-19 season, after missing out on Champions League football.

The figures lay bare the impact of the crisis on football's European elite with Deloitte's money league showing that the top 20 revenue-generating clubs lost around £975million during the 2019-20 season due to factors including the lack of spectators and effect on broadcast income.

Manchester United have dropped out of Deloitte's football rich list for the first time since 2013. European champions have overtaken Manchester United in third place in the Money League

Some of the latter will be made up in the 2020-21 accounts, along with deferred prize money for many clubs, but the ongoing effects of the virus see the drop in revenue projected to reach £1.75bn between the 20 clubs.

Tim Bridge of Deloitte's Sports Business Group said: 'We usually release our money league and talk about the growth in revenue but of course football is not immune to the Covid-19 pandemic.

'The revenue that's been missed out on is driven by the lack of fans in the stadium, the lack of interaction on a matchday - fans spending in the club shop and buying food and drink - and there is an element that relates to revenue that broadcasters have either clawed back (or deferred) to next year.

'There is an element of the 19-20 season being played in the 20-21 financial year, so there's a rollover of a certain element of revenue, but for this season the matchday revenue is the most significant hit for the clubs.

Quote:
DELOITTE MONEY LEAGUE

1 - Barcelona - £627.1m

2 - Real Madrid - £627m

3 - Bayern Munich - £556.1m

4 - Manchester United - £509m

5 - Liverpool - £489.9m

6 - Manchester City - £481.6m

7 - PSG - £474.1m

8 - Chelsea - £411.9m

9 - Tottenham - £390.9m

10 - Juventus - £349m
'The commercial revenue has so far held up. I think many people were concerned that in the short term there would be an immediate shock from sponsors pulling out or unable to pay their bills but at the moment these biggest clubs have been able to hold up their commercial value.'

Cash-strapped Barcelona still top the charts despite their latest accounts this week showing they are £112m in debut to 19 clubs over unpaid transfer fees.

Manchester United's revenue is down by £118.1m, 19 per cent on the 2018-19 season. Europe's elite are counting the cost of the lack of spectators and effect on broadcast income

Real Madrid have closed within £100,000 of their El Clasico rivals, who suffered a 15 per cent drop in revenue to £627.1m.

Bridge added: 'In Germany they managed to complete the season prior to the end of June so the vast majority of revenue was recognised within the correct financial year.

'That has contributed but of course on-pitch Bayern Munich had a fantastic season, competing in the Champions League compared to Manchester United who were competing in the Europa League, so there would likely have been a closing of that gap anyway.'

Liverpool and Manchester City rank fifth and sixth with Chelsea and Tottenham also in the top 10, Arsenal 11th and Everton 17th.

The Toffees were one of only two clubs in the top 20, along with newcomers Zenit St Petersburg, to actually post improved revenues compared to 12 months previously - but it is their neighbours across Stanley Park who Bridge expects to thrive in years to come.

He said: 'A club such as Liverpool, who've made a concerted effort to engage with fans using digital and social media channels - that may well have created new revenue-generating opportunities and may mean they've gained a competitive advantage.'

West Ham dropped out of the top 20 along with Roma - but it is clubs much further down the pecking order, in the lower leagues, who will suffer most from reduced incomes.

Bridge said: 'Matchday revenue for these biggest clubs is their smallest proportion whereas the further down the system you go, the bigger that proportion is.

'The loss of fans is really felt most acutely by those clubs further down the system. That's why the support packages that have been talked about are absolutely essential to the future of these clubs.'

Man United are KNOCKED OUT of the top three in Forbes' list of the world's most-valuable football clubs as Liverpool rocket up the table overtaking Chelsea, Arsenal... and even super-rich Man City!

* Manchester United are out of the top three of Forbes' most valuable clubs
* The Red Devils were valued at £3.05billion - marginally behind Bayern Munich
* Barcelona have overtaken Real Madrid at the top of the table by a marginal lead
* Liverpool (£2.98billion) have moved up to fifth place ahead of Manchester City
* England's Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are all in the top ten along with PSG

Manchester United have fallen out of the top three most valuable football clubs in the world, according to Forbes.

The Red Devils, who are valued at £3.05billion, have moved down a place to fourth with German giants Bayern Munich above them in third.

At the top of the list, Barcelona have moved ahead of Real Madrid to become Forbes' most valuable football club at £3.46billion - just marginally ahead of their LaLiga rivals - while Liverpool have jumped up three places to fifth and ahead of Manchester City.

Manchester United have slipped out of the top three in Forbes' most valuable football club. The Red Devils are behind Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid and now Bayern Munich

Last year's Premier League champions, owned by John Henry and Tom Werner, are valued at £2.98billion while City, led by the Abu Dhabi United Group are worth £2.91billion. Forbes state the Reds have enjoyed a 88 per cent value change over the past two years.

Roman Abramovich's Chelsea are England's next most valuable club at £2.33billion while Stan Kroenke's Arsenal are just behind the Blues in eighth place, rated at just over £2billion.

Tottenham, owned by Daniel Levy, have snuck into the top ten at £1.67billion - just behind Paris Saint-Germain on the list.

Liverpool are England's second most-valuable club ahead of Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal

United have slipped out of the top three despite achieving the highest operating income - earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, player transfers and disposal of player registrations - on the list with £121million.

The Red Devils' revenue stood at £467million which was the fourth highest on the list, around £43million lower than Bayern.

The updated list is a blow to Real Madrid who have lost their status as Forbes' most valuable club in the world.

Zinedine Zidane's side beat their rivals to the LaLiga title last summer while the Catalans recently announced losses of £83.5m for last season and debts that had more than doubled to £420m.

However, Los Blancos remained the best club in the world regarding commercial revenue, bringing in £424million advertising, sponsorships, shirt and kit deals during the 2019-20 season.

But Barcelona's broadcast revenue for the season stood at £200million, higher than any other team in the campaign, which saw them finish top overall.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City were the only two clubs in the top ten to make a loss in the operating income section, with the Ligue 1 club losing £3.64million while the English side lost £1.45m.

Interestingly, Tottenham had the second highest operating income out of all the clubs in the top ten, but Spurs - who recently built at new £1billion stadium and took a £175million Bank of England loan in June to cover costs have a debt value of 39 per cent.

Spurs' north London rivals, Arsenal, had a lower revenue than both Tottenham and Juventus - who finished behind them in Forbes' list - but the Gunners have a lower debt (7 per cent) than their European rivals.

English sides Everton (15th), West Ham (18th) and Leicester City (19th) made Forbes' top 20 most-valuable sides, while the likes of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan joined Juventus in just missing out on the top ten.

Teams' values were decided on an enterprise level (equity plus net debt) and include the economics of the club's stadium but exclude the real estate value.

4. Manchester United - $4.2billion (£3.06bn)

Man City, Man United and Chelsea boast the most costly squads in world football with a combined value of £2.5BILLION... as English sides dwarf their European rivals PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona

* A new study has revealed that Manchester City have the world's costliest squad
* Study ranks teams according to transfer fees invested to sign squad members
* English side Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea make up top three
* Unsurprisingly, PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona spent the most outside England

The cost of assembling the Premier League's leading sides continues to dwarf that of their European rivals a new study has found, with the squads of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea costing a staggering £2.5billion.

The CIES Football Observatory has crunched the numbers just days after the closure of the summer transfer window and ranked teams in Europe's 'big five' leagues according to the transfer fees paid to assemble their squads.

English clubs, unsurprisingly, dominate the list with the lavish amount of talent on offer to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City putting them top the rankings with a squad cost of £917m, which includes potential add-ons.

A new study has revealed that Man City currently have the world's most expensive squad

Manchester United (£863m) have invested the second most amount of money in their squad

The reigning Premier League champions are closely followed by rivals Manchester United, whose squad has cost £863m to put together.

Chelsea complete an all-English top three at £759m after Premier League sides continued to flex their financial muscles in the most recent transfer window with an overall spend of around £2billion.

Outside of the Premier League, Paris Saint-Germain sit comfortably in fourth place with a combined cost of £730m that they hope will be enough to finally deliver the European glory that their Qatari owners crave.

Still sitting above Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in fifth place is Liverpool.

The Reds, despite having a reputation of being financially prudent in the transfer market, have paid out £669m on talent for Jurgen Klopp at present.

Then come the Spanish pair of Real and Barcelona.

The current Champions League holders are in sixth place with a spend of £621m and then Barcelona - who have enormous financial concerns - sitting seventh with £539m.

Quote:
SQUAD COST (INC. ADD-ONS)

1. Manchester City £917m

2. Manchester United £863m

3. Chelsea £759m

4. PSG £730m

5. Liverpool £669m

6. Real Madrid £621m

7. Barcelona £539m

8. Arsenal £460m

9. Tottenham £447m

10. Atletico Madrid £432m
It's then back to the Premier League as north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham take the eighth and ninth places with £460m and £447m, respectively.

Atletico Madrid then complete the rest of the top 10 with an overall spend of £432m.

Sat at the top of the standings, the two Manchester teams are the only clubs with a spend above one billion euros.

City didn't have one of their more lucrative spending summers but still invested more than £100m in the signings of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Sergio Gomez and Manuel Akanji.

United were the big spenders of the window, though. They invested over £200m on the likes of Casemiro, Antony and Lisandro Martinez as Erik ten Hag bids to finally turn the club back into a superpower.

England star Jack Grealish is the most expensive member of City's squad, costing £100m from Aston Villa in the summer of 2021. Key players Kevin De Bruyne and Ruben Dias cost £68m and £61m respectively.

Antony has taken the position of United's priciest player following the departure of record signing Paul Pogba this summer.

Harry Maguire is the second costliest at £80m, with Jadon Sancho just behind him at £76.5m.

The most expensive squads in Germany (Bayern Munich) and Italy (Juventus) do not even feature in the top 10.

Perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern are lauded for their ability to pick star players up on free transfers - see Sadio Mane this summer.

But the Bavarian club have still forked out £430m to bring together the enviable array of talent at the disposal of Julian Nagelsmann - which leaves them in 11th place.

Meanwhile, in Italy, Juventus sit 13th in the list with a total spend of £407m. Perhaps the most impressive achievement in this list is the £208m spent by AC Milan to get their current squad together.

Milan won the Serie A title last year and have brought together an exciting group of young talents, such as Rafael Leao, Sandro Tonali, Theo Hernandez and Fikayo Tomori.

Manchester United are ranked the third most valuable football club in the world - behind only Real Madrid and Barcelona - despite turbulence of the post-Ferguson era with the Glazers set for a £3.9BILLION windfall if they wish to sell

* Glazer-owned club valued as the third most valuable football team in the world
* Falls behind only Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in the Forbes list
* Premier League side just sneak into the top 20 most valuable sports teams

Manchester United have been ranked as the third most valuable football club globally by Forbes.

With the turbulence of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era greatly impacting performances on the pitch, many believed it to only be a matter of time before that drop off is reflected in the value of the club.

However, its value appears to have been protected further with Forbes ranking the club as one of the top three most valuable football clubs on the planet and one of the top 20 sports teams globally.

The Glazer-owned club has been valued at £3.9billion by the American business magazine, falling just below Real Madrid's £4.4bn and Barcelona's £4.3bn valuations.

With talk abound that the Glazers could soon cash in on their asset amid a turbulent period for their ownership in which supporters have turned en masse against, it is clear that they would be set for a significant windfall should they decide to sell.

The American family bought the club for around £790m in 2005, ensuring they would be set for a healthy profit on their investment if they were to sell today.

Manchester United has been valued as the third most valuable football club globally by Forbes

United has seen its value rise by 24 per cent in the last five years with performances on the pitch not impacting its general market value.

Real Madrid has seen its stock rise by 42 per cent across the same period while Barcelona's has risen by 39 per cent.

Despite the Premier League's overall financial dominance of the global footballing landscape, the two Spanish giants are still considered the formative clubs in terms of value worldwide.

United fall behind Real Madrid - whose ground is pictured - and Barcelona in the list of the top 50 most valuable sporting institutions. Barcelona, despite experiencing financial turbulence off the pitch, are still seen as an incredibly valuable asset

With Chelsea recently breaking the record for being the most expensive sports team ever when it was sold to Todd Boehly and Clearlake for £4.25bn, it is believed United would exceed that price should it be sold.

Liverpool are the next highest ranked English football club, valued at £3.8bn. Their astonishing transformation under Jurgen Klopp is reflected in the fact that the value of the club has risen by an astonishing 197 per cent since 2017.

The top 20, meanwhile, is largely dominated by American football teams which continue to lead the field for the most valuable sporting assets.

Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots, owned by Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft, respectively, lead the table in first and second. The Cowboys are valued at an eye-watering £6.8bn while Kraft's side are valued at £5.5bn.

The rest of the top five is made up by the Stan Kroenke-owned Los Angeles Rams (£5.3bn), baseball giants New York Yankees (£5.1bn) and the New York Giants (£5.1bn).

The financial might of the globe's most notable sports teams is reflected in the list published by Forbes. Such is the value attached to sport the value of the teams combined stretches into the hundreds of billions.

Bayern Munich and Manchester City, valued at £3.66bn and £3.6bn respectively, come in at 22nd and 23rd. City have seen their value increase by 102 per cent over the past five years.

Chelsea prop up the top 50, despite the price Boehly and Clearlake paid only in the spring. Forbes have them valued at £2.67bn.

Cristiano Ronaldo named most marketable athlete in the WORLD on annual SportsPro list... as the veteran Manchester United star pips Serena Williams and finishes ahead of Lionel Messi and LeBron James

* SportsPro have released their list of the world’s 50 most marketable athletes
* Cristiano Ronaldo came out on top with Serena Williams in second
* Lewis Hamilton was third with Lionel Messi and LeBron James behind him

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the most marketable athlete on the planet, ahead old rival Lionel Messi, Serena Williams, Lewis Hamilton and LeBron James.

The Manchester United star is considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of football.

Beyond that, he has become one of the biggest stars in the world, currently boasting the most Instagram followers (489m) of anyone on the planet.

He also has huge brand deals with the likes Nike, Herbalife, Clear and LiveScore.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the most marketable athlete on the planet

SportsPro released their list of the 50 most marketable athletes on Monday morning, with Ronaldo topping the charts. It is the 13th year SportsPro have compiled the list, which helps companies decide on which athlete to hire as the face of their brand.

Athletes were ranked according to a 'Marketability Score', which is split into three distinct scoring components: brand strength, economics and audience.

Designed to accurately evaluate an athlete's marketability, the ranking is not just based on social media followership or reach, but also takes into account an athlete's social impact, charitable endeavours and influence on the triple bottom line.

Ronaldo was named the most marketable athlete after commanding a 'marketability score' of 91.21 out of a possible 100.

He was some way clear of tennis icon Serena Williams in second and seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton in third.

Quote:
THE TOP 10

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

2. Serena Williams

3. Lewis Hamilton

4. LeBron James

5. Lionel Messi

6. Naomi Osaka

7. Virat Kohli

8. Alex Morgan

9. Sam Kerr

10. Tom Brady
'Who is the most marketable athlete on the planet today?' asked Michael Long, SportsPro's editorial director. 'We at SportsPro have asked ourselves that very question every year since 2010, and each year the process of answering it provides a fascinating snapshot of the business of athlete marketing.

'Marketability can be defined in many ways, but what's clear from our in-depth assessment is that each of the athletes in this year's diverse list delivers considerable value to their brand partners.

'Not only are they elite, highly visible performers in their respective sports, their individual reach and influence and, in many cases, willingness to speak out on social issues positions them as ideal ambassadors for companies seeking to communicate authentically to consumers.'

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to edge out World Cup hero Lionel Messi to top spot in football's Instagram Rich List... with Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mohamed Salah and Gareth Bale all cracking the top 10

* Cristiano Ronaldo is still top of the pile for money earned from Instagram posts
* World Cup hero and long-time rival Lionel Messi is, however, catching him up
* Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez and Neymar all find themselves slotted inside the top 10

Cristiano Ronaldo's hold on top spot of football's Instagram rich list has continued as he continues to hold off long-time rival Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo, who boasts 528 million followers on the photo and video sharing app, earns around $2.4m (£2m) per branded post, according to Hopper's 2022 rich list. That had soared from around £1.16m per post in the 2021 ranking.

The Portugal forward, who has just signed a £175m-per-year contract at Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr after leaving Manchester United, promotes brands including Nike, Clear shampoo, Louis Vuitton, Bitcoin exchange Binance and app Livescore.

Ronaldo has not published a paid partnership post since November 22 when he was showing off a watch by Jacob & Co, an American jewelry and wristwatch retailer.

Ronaldo's status as arguably the most marketable athlete on the planet is, however, seen as under threat from Messi following Argentina's World Cup win last month.

Messi is one of the most in-demand footballers anywhere in the world currently following his World Cup win in Qatar and brands are desperate to get access to him.

The PSG star has 414 million Instagram followers and already counts brands such as Budweiser beer, the Call of Duty and eFootball video games, energy drink Gatorade, crypto exchange Bitget and artificial eyewear firm Orcam as companies he has promoted.

FOOTBALL'S INSTAGRAM RICH LIST

Amounts in £ earned per branded post

1. Cristiano Ronaldo - £2m

2. Lionel Messi - £1.5m

3. Neymar - £784,000

4. David Beckham - £330,000

5. Ronaldinho - £299,000

6. Zlatan Ibrahimovic - £241,000

7. Mohamed Salah - £228,000

8. Gareth Bale - £212,000

9. Luis Suarez - £196,000

10. Toni Kroos - £152,000
Behind Ronaldo and Messi is the Argentine's PSG team-mate Neymar, who earns close to £784,000 per branded post.

Neymar's last branded post saw him promote Blaze casino and his collaboration with them on Boxing Day. The post earned more than 3.8m likes.

Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar are three of the most famous stars among active players, but it is two retired icons that round out the top five in the rich list.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger David Beckham pulls in fourth, earning £330,000 per branded post while Brazilian Ronaldinho rounds out the top five, earning just under £300,000 a post.

Beckham is a frequent poster and his latest promotion has seen him promote Tudor Watch company.

Haig Club, EA Sports and adidas are among the other brands that frequently appear on Beckham's account, which boasts 76.8m followers.

The other five players in the top 10 are all still playing and outspoken striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic narrowly edges out Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, as they rank sixth and seventh respectively.

Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez and Toni Kroos complete the top 10.

David Beckham is the other retired star that still commands huge fees for his branded posts

Ronaldo may be on top but Messi is the man of the moment when it comes to Instagram now.

The 35-year-old made social media history when an Instagram picture of him lifting the World Cup trophy became the most liked post ever.

It has amassed more than 75 million likes since it was posted on December 18, surpassing a picture of an egg posted by British advertising executive Chris Godfrey in 2019.

A later post of Messi in bed with the World Cup trophy after the team returned to Argentina gained over 50m likes.

Brands are scrambling to capitalise on Messi's World Cup success with Argentina in Qatar. Messi promotes artificial eyewear company OrCam in a sponsored post on his Instagram account, which has 414 million followers around the world. Another branded post saw Messi plug the popular video game series Call of Duty

Liverpool jump AHEAD of Manchester United in the Deloitte Football Money League for the first time in the publication's 26-year history after a 22% revenue increase... as Man City remain top ahead of Real Madrid

* Liverpool are the biggest risers in the Deloitte Football Money League
* It's thanks to their Champions League run and an increase in matchday revenue
* Manchester City remain top of the list, with Real Madrid ahead of Liverpool
* Manchester United are fourth, ahead of PSG, Bayern Munich and Barcelona
* London sides Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal round out the top ten in the list
* Both Liverpool and Manchester United have this season been up for sale

Liverpool have shot up the Deloitte Football Money League table and are ahead of Manchester United for the first time in the publication's 26-year history.

The Reds are the biggest movers in this year's edition, rising four places to third, thanks to a revenue increase of almost 22 per cent, from £487.4m during the 2020-21 season, to £594.3m in 2021-22.

It perhaps come as no surprise in a season which the Reds fought on all fronts, winning both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and were just two wins away from an unprecedented quadruple.

As reported by Sky Sports, Deloitte put Liverpool's rise down to additional broadcast revenue generated by their run to the Champions League final and a significant increase in matchday revenue.

Liverpool are now in the top three, with only Manchester City (£619.1m) and Champions League victors Real Madrid (£604.5m) ahead of them.

Manchester United are in fourth despite an 18% increase from 2020-21 to £583.2m, while Paris Saint-Germain round off the top five with £554m.

It will be tough for Liverpool see such an increase after this season, following their struggles which have left them ninth in the table, with a tricky Champions League last-16 clash against Real Madrid in a rematch of last year's final.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United have this season been put up for sale.

There have been reports this week that Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group are yet to receive any offers that would persuade them to part ways with the club, despite listing it for sale more than two months ago.

The Boston-based owners have a preference to sell a small portion of the club but they claim that nothing is imminent in that regard.

Senior FSG officials have also dismissed rumours that they are on the brink of selling Liverpool to a Qatari consortium.

There have been updates with Manchester United however, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe formally threw his hat into the ring.

A spokesman for Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s richest men and a boyhood United fan, confirmed on Tuesday that his company Ineos is interested in buying the club, saying: ‘We have formally put ourselves into the process.’

Ratcliffe is expected to face rival interest from the United States, Asia and the Middle East after the Glazer family revealed their willingness to sell United following 17 years in power at Old Trafford.

Premier League champions Man City remain top of the list ahead of Real Madrid

Man City's place at the top of the list comes following their meteoric rise from a financial standpoint, that helped transform the club's fortunes on the pitch, with City going from long-standing strugglers to English football behemoth following the Abu Dhabi takeover back in 2008.

In the 26 years since the Money League was first introduced following the 1996-97 season, City's revenue has grown from £12.7million to £619.1m.

This year's Money League highlights the financial might of the Premier League, with more than half of the 20 included making the list.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal round off the top ten behind European giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Barcelona who were top of the table from 2019-20 season, have again dropped a further three positions to seventh.

The Gunners became the first team to enter the top ten since 2018-19, thanks to a revenue increase of 13% to £367.1m.

Tottenham had the second largest revenue increase on the list in ninth, rising 23% to £442.8m after qualifying for the Champions League after two seasons out of Europe's most prestigious competition.

West Ham are new entrants in 15th and have the largest revenue increase out of any team in the list with 30%, after generating a revenue of £255.1m.

Other English sides to make the top 20 include Leicester, new entrants Leeds, Everton and Newcastle who have also jumped into the list.

Tim Bridge, lead partner in Deloitte's Sports Business Group said: 'For the first time, Premier League clubs fill the lion's share of positions in Deloitte's Football Money League.

'The question now is whether other leagues can close the gap, likely by driving the value of future international media rights, or if the Premier League will be virtually untouchable, in revenue terms.

'The Premier League reported a significant increase in its international media rights value during its most recent rights sale process.

'Meanwhile, La Liga commenced a new domestic broadcast cycle. The league agreed deals with broadcasters for an extended five-year period, and also sold certain rights packages on a non-exclusive basis, and/or operated them directly.

'It (Premier League) continues to appeal to millions of global followers and its member clubs have a greater revenue advantage over international rivals.'
