maaf baru bisa ngelanjutin ...

We’ve now enjoyed a wonderful 20 years of Premier League football since it’s inception in 1992/93. In that time we’ve seen wonderful foreign players ranging from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo to Thierry Henry, not to mention the English stalwarts of the division like Steven Gerrard or Wayne Rooney. Manchester United have inevitably dominated during the modern era, overhauling rivals Liverpool’s record of 18 league titles and Arsenal have been their main rivals from an early stage.

However, we’ve seen challenges from certain money rich clubs to the dominance of those two sides, with Blackburn initially spending Jack Walker’s millions to land the title before Roman’s Russian revolution of Chelsea saw them catapult their way into the upper echelons of English football. However, Manchester City have now joined the elite, winning their first Premier League title thanks to their oil rich owners. In two decades, England’s top flights has seen tons of goals, assists, bookings, saves, corners and all the rest and to celebrate 20 years of Premier League football, we bring you the best 20 Premier League stats.

Wanyama becomes first Kenyan goalscorer in the BPL
Kenya is the 91st different nation to have a goalscorer in Barclays Premier League history

By scoring the winning goal against Swansea City on Saturday Victor Wanyama not only registered his first goal in Southampton colours but became the first Kenyan to score in the Barclays Premier League.

The strike by the 23-year-old former Celtic midfielder means that players from 91 different nations have scored in the English top flight since its inaugural season in 1992/93. The last goalscorer before Wanyama to put his country's flag on the BPL map for the first time was Fernando Amorebieta, of Venezuela, who was on target for Fulham in April. The defender's goal followed that of Kei Kamara, of Norwich City, in February 2013, who flew the flag for Sierra Leone.

Two years earlier Stefan Savic had become the first Montenegrin to score in the BPL, in October 2011, six months after his Manchester City team-mate Edin Dzeko had similarly broken new ground for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It is no surprise that England is the country to have produced the most goalscorers in the Barclays Premier League, with 747 players amassing 9,754 goals. Scotland are second on that list with 106 scorers, two ahead of France, although the French have outscored the Scots by 1,291 to 888.

The Republic of Ireland lie fourth on the list with 92 scorers while the Netherlands have produced the fifth-most marksmen with 67 – four more than Wales. Spain come next with 50 scorers, and Italy, Brazil, Northern Ireland and Norway complete the top 10. The five nations who have scored only one goal in the BPL are Kenya, Venezuela, Sierra Leone, Poland and St Kitts and Nevis.

There are 15 further nations to have been represented in the English top flight whose players have yet to find the net, including Albania, Bolivia, Cape Verde Islands and the Faroe Islands but until January at least, only one further nation can join the list: Zambia, whose striker Emmanuel Mayuka, is on the books of Southampton.

There have been two Barclays Premier League matches in which players from seven different nations have scored. Arsenal's 6-2 defeat of Blackburn Rovers in October 2009 produced goals from Belgium's Thomas Vermaelen, Denmark's Nicklas Bendtner, Englishmen David Dunn and Theo Walcott, France's Steven N'Zonzi, Dutchman Robin van Persie, Russia's Andrey Arshavin and Spain's Cesc Fabregas.

In March 2002 Newcastle United boasted goals by England's Alan Shearer, France's Olivier Bernard, Guyana's Carl Cort, Peru's Nolberto Solano, and Republic of Ireland's Andy O’Brien in their 6-2 win over Everton. The Toffees responded through Duncan Ferguson and Niclas Alexandersson of Scotland and Sweden respectively.

Excluding English players, who have scored as many as eight, the record number of goals scored by players from the same country in a single BPL match is five, which has happened on six occasions. Argentina (Norwich City 1-6 Manchester City, 14 April 2012); Brazil (Middlesbrough 8-1 Man City; 11 May 2008), France (Arsenal 5-0 Leeds United, 16 April 2004); Australia (Charlton Athletic 1-6 Leeds United, 5 April 2003) and the Netherlands (Arsenal 5-1 Middlesbrough, 20 November 1999) all claimed five goals. Bulgaria also produced five in a single match (Manchester United 7-1 Blackburn Rovers, 27 November, 2010) with striker Dimitar Berbatov claiming five for himself.

Another EPL record ...

29 September 2007 - Portsmouth 7-4 Reading
Benjani hit a hat-trick as Portsmouth beat Reading 7-4 in the highest-scoring match in Barclays Premier League history.

Pompey led 2-1 at half-time but the floodgates opened after the break and the score would have been higher had Portsmouth goalkeeper David James not saved a Nicky Shorey penalty.

The goalscoring started on seven minutes, when Benjani passed to John Utaka on the left and then met his cross to find the net from close range.

The Zimbabwe international doubled Pompey’s lead in the 37th minute when he ran at the Reading defence before finding the net with a powerful low drive from 20 yards.

Royals goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann then denied Glen Johnson before the visitors pulled one back on the stroke of half-time when Stephen Hunt headed home from close range.

Reading drew level three minutes after the break when Pompey goalkeeper David James raced out to the right wing to try to dispossess Dave Kitson, who evaded his tackle and scored his third goal of the season from a tight angle close to the byline.

Pompey regained the lead in the 55th minute when Hermann Hreidarsson beat Hahnemann to Sylvain Distin’s deep cross and headed in his first goal for the club.

Shorey squandered the chance of another equaliser in the 65th minute when his penalty was saved by James after handball by Papa Bouba Diop.

Benjani completed his first hat-trick in English football in the 70th minute, racing on to Sulley Muntari’s pass, bypassing the onrushing Hahnemann and tucking the ball home from eight yards.

It became 5-2 in the 75th minute when Niko Kranjcar headed in Sean Davis’s cross from close range but again Reading would not give up and James Harper’s volley deflected in off Shane Long four minutes later to hand them renewed hope.

Davis finally killed them off in the 81st minute when his 30-yard shot deflected in off Royals defender Ivar Ingimarsson.

Muntari got on the scoresheet in injury-time to put Pompey 7-3 up from the penalty spot but there was still time for Shorey’s deflected effort to find the Pompey net.

Portsmouth coach Joe Jordan said: “Even at 2-2 I don’t think anyone expected the score to be exaggerated to 7-4 but overall I think the best team won.”

“It’s difficult to analyse a match like that and if you try, you will be there a very long time,” Reading manager Steve Coppell added.

The two sides went on to have very contrasting seasons with Reading being relegated on goal difference on the final day of the season, with Fulham surviving, and Pompey finishing eighth and winning the FA Cup.

'It was a great honour to be first Chinese player to score'
On his 37th birthday Sun Jihai recalls his time at Manchester City

He lives more than 5,000 miles away from the Etihad Stadium now, but former Manchester City defender Sun Jihai admits the club is still close to his heart.

"I have a friend in England, he sends me texts about every Man City game, he lets me know every time there’s a goal," Sun tells premierleague.com. "So even if I am too busy to watch the game, I know how Man City are getting on."

The defender, who celebrates his 37th birthday today, was the first Chinese player to score a goal in the Barclays Premier League, one of three he got in 123 BPL matches for Manchester City.

26/10/02: Debut BPL goal v Birmingham (A)
Total BPL appearances: 123

.
Sun liked to play as an attacking full-back, but thinks Man City fans might remember him best for his character.

"The Man City fans remember that I liked to smile," he says. "Maybe this helped them accept and understand my personality."

Sun is a player-coach in southwest China at Guizhou Renhe in the Chinese Super League. He joined Manchester City in 2002, four years after first coming to England to join Crystal Palace on loan from Dalian Shide with compatriot Fan Zhiyi. At Palace he played a season before returning to Dalian. In 2002, Man City, who were challenging to return to the Barclays Premier League, came calling for a permanent deal.

"Before I joined Man City I didn't know too much about the club," Sun says. "But others told me about it, and that at the time they were top of the Championship, so had a great chance of promotion.

"So I moved, and within a few months we had achieved promotion."

Sun made more appearances in the Barclays Premier League than any other Chinese player. Compatriots to follow him were Zheng Zhi at Charlton Athletic, Li Tie at Everton, and Dong Fangzhuo at Manchester United. His landmark goal came against Birmingham City on 26 October 2002.

"It was a great honour to be the first Chinese player to score in the Premier League," he says. "I really cherish the time I spent playing overseas. To be able to play in a bigger and better league and develop myself was very fortunate.

"Those six years at Manchester City had lots of memorable firsts: the first time I played in a Premier League; , the first time I scored a goal in the Premier League; or even my first own goal! Now when I think of them they are all great memories."

Defending Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City currently trail Chelsea by five points, but Sun is not concerned.

"The season is long, it's not about just one game,” he adds. "After eight or nine months we will see. He who laughs last laughs longest. The Premier League has only been going for just over a month. It’s really early and Man City still have a great chance of defending the title."

Although there are no Chinese players at present at Barclays Premier League clubs, Sun says the competition's popularity in China remains as strong as ever.

"It is the most popular league in China," he says. "Many friends in China follow the Premier League. That's not only because I played in it, but because they think it's great to watch."
