Peter Kenyon



Peter Kenyon (born 1954 in Stalybridge, Cheshire) is a British businessman who has served as the chief executive of English Premier League clubs Manchester United Football Club and Chelsea Football Club, where he has been involved in contentious transfer dealings.

Early life
Kenyon was educated in Tameside at West Hill School.

Career
Kenyon was a director and chief executive of sportswear firm Umbro.

Manchester United
Kenyon took up the role of deputy chief executive at his boyhood team Manchester United in 1997, where he sat on the Board of Directors. He was promoted to chief executive in August 2000 following the departure of Martin Edwards. Kenyon was influential in persuading long-serving manager Alex Ferguson to remain at the club despite Ferguson's original intention to retire in 2002.

One of the other notable aspects of Kenyon's time in charge was the fact that the club dismissed their rigid wage structure and spent large sums of money on players such as Juan Sebastian Veron and Rio Ferdinand. During his time in his role, the club actually became one of the most financially stable, while simultaneously expanding their global appeal.

He was targeted by Chelsea shortly after Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club.

Chelsea
Kenyon was the main spokesman for the non-footballing side of Chelsea as Roman Abramovich does not give interviews or attend press conferences and Chelsea's chairman Bruce Buck keeps a low profile. Kenyon's background is in marketing, and he was recruited by Chelsea to increase the club's commercial income.

His move to Chelsea was controversial, not least as he proclaimed himself as a lifelong Manchester United supporter, and the fact that Chelsea's wealth was seen as a major threat to United's almost unbroken dominance of the English game since the early 1990s.

Since joining Chelsea, Kenyon has been involved in high-profile controversies including an attempt to persuade the manager of the England national team Sven-Göran Eriksson to become manager of Chelsea, and the tapping-up of former Arsenal and current England left-back Ashley Cole.

On 16 September 2009, Chelsea announced that Kenyon would be leaving his chief executive role at Chelsea at the end of October.

Kenyon departed his post amid a flurry of speculation that he would replace Garry Cook at Manchester City, the team he supported as a boy.

Entah kenapa, gw benci banget sama Kenyon. Ngga heran, di tiap match united vs chelsea, ada 1 chant yg dinyanyiin 2 kubu supporter untuk 1 orang : “Kenyon, you’re a bastard,”

1 pertanyaan di headline media massa inggris ttg kepindahan kenyon ke chelsea tahun 2003 waktu itu : Did he jump ship knowing the great Manchester United was already sinking in the water?. Dan itu adalah koran harian di london!

Ini aktor utama dibalik dipecatnya pelatih pujaan fans Claudio Ranieri, skandal pendekatan ilegal Ashley Cole, hingga pemberian medali di Final UCL Moscow 2008. Seorang editor koran yg jg fans chelsea pernah berseloroh : Pesta presentasi Man United dipimpin oleh seorang legenda sepanjang masa yang sangat dihormati sekelas Sir Bobby Charlton, One-club man dengan medali tak terhitung di lehernya. Kenyon ini menghalalkan segala cara untuk terlibat di setiap keputusan termasuk transfer pemain. Dy pernah bikin statement bahwa united adalh klub terbesar di dunia, untuk kemudian 3 bulan kemudian cabut ke chelsea dan bilang kalo chelsea adalah klub yg bikin doi sangat nyaman dan superior.

Orang ini otaknya berisi 99% BISNIS, bukan bisnis demi kepentingan klub, tp demi kepentingan dirinya sendiri dan kehormatannya sendiri...

Former Manchester United and Chelsea CEO Peter Kenyon is fronting a consortium attempting to buy Everton, with the group willing to pay £400m - significantly lower than Farhad Moshiri's £550m valuation

Peter Kenyon, the former chief executive of Manchester United and Chelsea, is spearheading a consortium who are in discussions to buy Everton.

It is understood that the group indicated an original willingness to pay £400million for the club - but that figure is significantly short of the amount current owner Farhad Moshiri values the Merseysiders.

It is understood Moshiri wants in the region of £550m before considering selling.

The group includes American businessman John Thornton, who is chief executive of mining company Barrick Gold, and Maciek Kaminski, the chief executive of Minneapolis-based company Talon Real Estate.

The consortium are believed to be taking advice from investment specialist Michael Klein and US law firm Weil, Gotshal and Manges.

Sources claim heads of terms have been signed, though talks are believed to be at an early stage.

Owner Farhad Moshiri is thought to value Everton at over £500million, taking into consideration the club’s debts.

The consortium may seek guarantees that the club will not be subject to Financial Fair Play penalties before they enter into any agreement.

Everton have always denied any wrongdoing.

Jersey-based Kenyon has been advising clubs and prospective owners for several years, and Klein and Kaminski advised Sir Martin Broughton on his failed bid to buy Chelsea.

Kenyon’s consortium are believed to be supportive of current boss Frank Lampard.

Kenyon has advised clubs and prospective owners for several years from Jersey, where he is based. Intriguingly, his company, Opto Advisers, were involved in the takeovers at Paris Saint-Germain and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Sportsmail revealed in April that Everton were attracting interest from American buyers willing to pay £350m for the club. At the time, they were crippled by financial problems and were in real danger of dropping out of the Premier League.

Three US-based bidders contacted Moshiri to open negotiations, it is understood.

The owner has not formally placed the Toffees on the market, but has been looking for outside investment to help fund their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

This has led a number of potential investors to attempt to persuade him to sell up.
