Default [2022-2023] Manchester United ~ Transfer Rumors

Man United want to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal 'at all costs' and are 'prepared to pay £43m for the defender' with the ball-playing centre back's agents ready to meet with the club 'as early as this week'

* Manchester United are willing to pay £43million to sign Villarreal's Pau Torres
* The Spanish side have reportedly made the centre back available this summer
* The 25-year-old's agents are ready to meet with the club if they agree a fee
* New boss Erik ten Hag is keen to bring in a ball-playing defender to suit his style

Manchester United reportedly want to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal, who will have to 'move mountains' to keep hold of the centre back.

Torres turned down a move to the Premier League last summer in favour of playing Champions League football with the Yellow Submariners this season.

However, the Spanish side face a greater challenge to keep hold of him in this year's transfer window with United desperate to sign the defender.

To bolster their defensive options ahead of the new campaign, the Red Devils want Torres 'at all costs' and are willing to pay up to €50million (£43m) for him, according to Marca.

Incoming manager Erik ten Hag prefers to play out from the back and is keen to bring in a ball-playing centre back with Torres said to fit in perfectly to the new boss's plans.

The player's agents, Tarraga and Fores, are set to travel to Manchester as early as this week to begin negotiations with the Premier League side, The Express reports.

The meeting is said to hinge on United agreeing a fee with Villarreal but Torres is believed to have been made available.

Due to the Spanish club's financial difficulties Torres is one of the players said to have been placed on the market to raise funds.

Unai Emery's side are struggling despite reaching the Champions League final as their league campaign took a hit due to their European ventures.

However, they managed to clinch Europa Conference League qualification on the final day of the LaLiga season.

Torres has a release clause valued at £50m but Villarreal are reportedly willing to sell for slightly lower than that fee in order to raise funds.

Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the defender but United are expected to make a swift move.

United centre back and captain Harry Maguire has endured a woeful season but Ten Hag was full of praise for the England international.

'I have to repeat that next season is a different season but I think he did a great job,' said the Dutchman.

'He's a great player, he's achieved already a lot really also [with his] contribution to Manchester United. So I'm looking forward to working with him.'

However, Maguire will still have to fight for his place under Ten Hag and Torres could bring healthy competition for him and Raphael Varane.

Meanwhile, The Express also reports that Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is believed to be of interest with United in talks over a deal for Ten Hag's former player.

Manchester United are 'set to make a final push to snap up Wolves star Ruben Neves this summer' with Erik ten Hag a 'big fan' of the £70m midfielder... although the Red Devils face competition from Barcelona for his signature

* Manchester United rumoured to have been chasing him for around 12 months
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer instigated the club's interest in Ruben Neves last summer
* Erik ten Hag, the new United manager, is believed to be a big fan of the player

Manchester United are set to make a final push to sign Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of next season.

Erik ten Hag, the new Manchester United boss, is reported to be looking to rebuild the club's midfield with the expected departure of Paul Pogba on a free next month freeing up room for new additions.

Neves' contract with Wolves is until 2024, but the West Midlands club's attempts to renew it appear to have been brushed away.

Neves, it was reported by The Sun, has been on Manchester United's radar for 12 months with ex-boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the first to instigate the club's interest in the player.

Ruben Neves is said to have been of interest to Manchester United for around 12 months. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the club's last permanent manager, initiated their interest, it is said. Erik ten Hag is believed to be a big fan of the player and would be interested in signing him. Manchester United reportedly face competition from Champions League-qualifying Barcelona

Manchester United reportedly saw a £35m bid turned down in January for the player, with Wolves seemingly holding out for a much bigger fee than that offered by the Red Devils.

Wolves reportedly told Manchester United that they wanted closer to £40m to let him go in January, while they are thought to want to command a fee of around £50m for him to go in this summer transfer window.

It was reported that the club, in the next few weeks, will look to step up their chase of the player who they have courted for a significant period of time.

Some continuity has been found from the previous regimes to the new one with the interest in the player seemingly transcending incumbents.

Ten Hag, who took over from Ralf Rangnick this week ahead of a crucial summer at the club, is said to be a big fan of the player and would be interested in bringing him to the club.

Manchester United's issue is that with no Champions League football and the club needing a significant rebuild, they have competition for targets.

Barcelona, looking to build on Xavi Hernandez's impressive revolution at the club, are wanting to bolster their ranks and they can offer Europe's elite competition to players.

Whether or not the Catalans have the money to complete a deal for the Portuguese is another matter, however, with their financial situation said to still be precarious.

Wolves are said to have accepted their fate with Neves and will not stand in the players way should the right offer come in.

Bruno Lage will look to arrest a sharp decline in results at the back end of the 2021/22 season with some clever summer business, with Sporting midfielder Palhinha reportedly earmarked as a Neves replacement.

The player is a client of Jorge Mendes, the Portuguese super-agent who enjoys a close relationship with the West Midlands, and is believed to have pricked the ears of Lage.

Man United 'open talks' to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal and 'have consulted' Erik ten Hag about moving for the defender as the incoming boss 'champions Ajax prodigy Jurrien Timber' among his first signings

* Manchester United have reportedly begun early talks over a move for Pau Torres
* The ball-playing Villarreal centre-back has a £50m release clause in his contract
* Incoming United supremo Erik ten Hag is said to have agreed to pursuing Torres
* Ten Hag could target 20-year-old Ajax and Netherlands defender Jurrien Timber

Manchester United have held initial talks over a move for Pau Torres and consulted incoming boss Erik ten Hag about a possible deal for the Villarreal defender, according to a report.

Ten Hag is plotting a major overhaul of United's underperforming squad when he officially starts at Old Trafford in July, and an attempt to sign long-term target Torres is said to have already started with the manager's approval.

One of Ten Hag's Eredivisie winners at Ajax, Jurrien Timber, has also been 'championed' by the Dutchman during early recruitment talks, according to the MEN.

Torres rejected a move to the Premier League last summer to pursue Champions League football with the Yellow Submarine, and the 25-year-old is understood to have a release clause in his contract of around £50m.

New Man United boss Erik ten Hag (left) is said to be targeting Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber

Villarreal reached the semi-finals of the Champions League but missed out on qualifying for the competition next season, reportedly leaving them open to lower bids for Torres in order to raise funds.

United could pay around £43m for the Spain international, whose abilities on the ball are thought to match the style of play Ten Hag wants to develop at Old Trafford.

Torres is under contract until 2024 but could be brought in amid an expected exodus at United after they confirmed sixth place on the final day of a forgettable campaign.

Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones will be among the defenders leaving at the end of the season, according to the outlet.

Europa League winner Torres is said to have been the back-up option when United signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in August 2021 under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Timber made his Ajax debut in 2020 and was almost ever-present as they won their most recent title under Ten Hag, scoring his first goal for the Amsterdammers to set them on their way to a 4-0 win over Emmen on May 2 that sealed top spot in the top flight.

The 20-year-old made his Netherlands bow in June 2021 and was selected for Euro 2020 that summer.

Leicester 'chase Man United midfielder James Garner' after impressive loan spell at Nottingham Forest this season but face competition from Premier League rivals for the 21-year-old

* James Garner has impressed for Nottingham Forest this season on their way to the play-off final
* Erik ten Hag is reported to be planning to make a decision on the player's future
* Various clubs including Leicester and Leeds are said to be interested in Garner

Leicester City are reported to be chasing on-loan Manchester United midfielder James Garner as Brendan Rodgers looks to rebuild the Foxes' squad this summer.

Garner has impressed throughout the season as a key part of Steve Cooper's Nottingham Forest side that find themselves one game away from the Premier League. They face Huddersfield at Wembley on Sunday.

With the 21-year-old's future at Manchester United uncertain, various Premier League clubs are said to be circling and interested in acquiring the player's services.

James Garner has impressed for Steve Cooper's promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest side. Brendan Rodgers is believed to want to rebuild the Leicester squad this summer

According to the Mirror, the likes of Leeds, Southampton and Leicester are interested in the midfielder. Rodgers was said to be particularly impressed by his performance in Forest's 4-1 evisceration of Leicester at the City Ground earlier this season.

With new boss Erik ten Hag having already arrived at the club and started work on what is going to prove an enormous job rebuilding the club, Garner's future, both short and long-term, remains unclear.

It has been reported that he is one of the players Ten Hag will assess during pre-season before making a final decision on where his future lies.

It is likely to be a tumultuous summer for the Manchester United squad with many outgoings likely leading to a few incomings.

Central midfield is said to be an area that has been pinpointed for some major surgery, with Paul Pogba expected to depart the club on a free transfer next month while Serbian Nemanja Matic has already confirmed he will be leaving the club.

It is unclear, as yet, whether or not expected departures will give Garner an opportunity to break into the first team at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag comes with a reputation of relishing the opportunity to work with young players, with his track record at Ajax boasting the development of the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt.

The on-loan Manchester United midfielder has an uncertain future at the club this summer. James Garner will be given an opportunity to impress manager Erik ten Hag this summer. De Jong himself has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, with Barcelona reportedly open to selling the Dutchman to have funds to improve other areas of the team.

Ruben Neves, the Wolves midfielder who is believed to be likely to depart the West Midlands club this summer, is another player reported to be on Manchester United's radar.

Should Garner not be given the chance to impress in the first team, it is reported that Rodgers will try to pounce and will make the young Englishman one of his top targets this summer.

Competition for a player who has impressed at the top of the Championship could prove fierce, however.

Manchester United 'are still keeping tabs on Villarreal's Arnaut Danjuma' one year after the Red Devils chose to splash out £73m on Jadon Sancho instead of signing the in-demand winger from Bournemouth

* Manchester United use this summer to rebuild their squad under Erik ten Hag
* The Villarreal winger impressed in the Champions League this season
* A move for the Dutchman is thought to be unlikely, however, given Man Utd's array of options on the left

Manchester United are still interested in Arnaut Danjuma, it has been reported.

The club will look to rebuild their squad under Erik ten Hag this summer as they look to reverse the astonishing decline seen in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson years.

Danjuma, who moved to Villarreal from Bournemouth last summer, is said to have been considered by Manchester United last year as an alternative to Jadon Sancho. The club reportedly held reservations over the playing owing to him playing his football in the Championship at the time.

With the Dutchman having enjoyed a stellar first season in Spain under Unai Emery, helping guide Villarreal to their first Champions League semi-final since 2006, he is still said to be of interest to the Manchester club.

However, report the Manchester Evening News, owing to their plethora of options on the left the club is unlikely to make a move for the player this summer.

In addition to Sancho, Manchester United have the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Anthony Elanga and the young Alejandro Garnacho who can all be deployed on the left-hand side.

Arnaut Danjuma has enjoyed an impressive first campaign at Villarreal under Unai Emery. The Dutchman's performances in the Champions League have particularly impressed. Manchester United are said to have chosen Jadon Sancho over Arnaut Danjuma last summer

Reports suggest Manchester United are keen to sign a forward this summer, with Antony and Christopher Nkunku both being touted for a potential move to the north-west.

Antony's obvious connection to Ten Hag seemingly makes that a transfer to watch out for while Nkunku is one of the most sought after players in all of Europe after a impressive season for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

It has been reported that Nkunku was recommended by Ralf Rangnick. The news that he will not be taking up his consultancy role with Manchester United as previously planned was announced over the weekend. It is unclear what repercussions this might have for the club's summer plans.

Manchester United's most pressing necessity appears to be in central midfield, where they are set to lose Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba this summer.

Targets are said to include Ruben Neves and Frenkie de Jong, with the latter's club Barcelona said to be open to selling the Dutchman for the right price.

Reports emerged on Monday suggesting that Barcelona, owing to their astronomical debts and generally dire financial state, are currently unable to register free signings Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.

Whether or not that opens the door for Manchester United to chase De Jong remains to be seen.

Manchester United defenders Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot are 'on Roma's summer transfer wish-list' with Jose Mourinho eager to raid his former club after winning the Europa Conference League

* Jose Mourinho will reportedly target both Red Devils full-backs this summer
* Roma are keen to strengthen the squad after winning a first ever European title
* Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 24, has struggled to impress at Old Trafford this season
* He joined Manchester United for £50 million in 2019 from Crystal Palace
* Diogo Dalot could return to Italy having enjoyed a loan spell at Milan in 2020-21
* Benjamin Henrichs and Bartosz Bereszynski are also on Roma's transfer shortlist

Roma manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing a swoop for Manchester United defenders Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot this summer.

The Portuguese manager is keen to bolster his defensive options and push towards a top four finish in Serie A next season, having brought Roma a first European trophy in their history last week.

Although Dutch international Rick Karsorp emerged a key player for Roma last campaign, Mourinho is reportedly in the market for a right-back, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles due to return to Arsenal following a disappointing loan spell in the Italian capital.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has only played 20 Premier League appearance for United this season

Roma are keen to attract Wan-Bissaka to the Italian capital next season and Manchester United value the defender at €30 million, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claimed that Roma would only be interested in recruiting Wan-Bissaka on loan with an option to buy in the future.

The 24-year-old joined the Red Devils in July 2019 for £50 million but has struggled for regular minutes since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure from Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot made 33 appearances for AC Milan during his loan spell away from Old Trafford

Wan-Bissaka is reportedly one of the players permitted to exit the club this summer, alongside defensive teammate Eric Bailly.

However, Italian reports also hint that Dalot could instead team up with Mourinho at Roma and fill the void at right-back, according to sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The Portuguese full-back, who is no stranger to Serie A having enjoyed a loan spell with Milan in 2020-21, is reportedly valued at €15 million by Manchester United.

Away from Old Trafford, Mourinho is believed to be interested in RB Leipzig's Benjamin Henrichs as well as 29-year-old Sampdoria full-back Bartosz Bereszynski.

Erik ten Hag 'eager to snatch Ajax youngster Jurrien Timber as his first summer signing for Manchester United', with Red Devils in drastic need of a defensive makeover having shipped a record-high 57 goals in the Premier League last season

* Manchester United are in talks with Ajax over the signing of Jurrien Timber
* Erik ten Hag formerly coached the 20-year-old during his time in Amsterdam
* The young Dutch defender at operate at centre-half and as a full-back
* Manchester United are also keen to lure Villareal's Pau Torres to Old Trafford

Manchester United have been reportedly holding talks with Ajax over the signing of defender Jurrien Timber, who is high on Erik ten Hag's transfer shortlist.

The new Red Devils boss is keen for the 20-year-old to follow in his footsteps and make the switch from Ajax to Old Trafford this summer, according to the Guardian.

Following Manchester United's record-low 57 goals conceded last season, the new Dutch chief will be expected to revamp the back line and improve defensively ahead of August.

Timber played a pivotal role in both of Ten Hag's title-winning campaigns with Ajax, after the Dutch boss offered him an Eredivisie debut in March 2020.

Although he operates predominantly as a central defender, rivalling club captain Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof to spots at the heart of defence, he can also be deployed as a full-back if required.

The young United target made 43 appearances for Ajax in all competitions last season, including eight Champions League caps - he provided three goals and two assists across the campaign.

Jurrien Timber helped Erik ten Hag win consecutive Eredivisie titles in 2020-21 and 2021-22. The young Ajax defender has already made six senior international caps for the Netherlands

Ajax reportedly value Timber at £43 million and have themselves offered the defender new terms despite United's initial interest.

Villareal defender and Spanish international Pau Torres, 25, is also on Ten Hag's radar, providing slightly more experience than his former Ajax colleague.

As it stands, in order to lure Torres to Old Trafford, Manchester United would need to meet the €60 million release clause set out in his contract.

But Torres has reportedly been offered a new deal to keep him in Spain.

Speaking about his future away from Villareal, the Spaniard told AS: 'Right now there is nothing at all.

'I have peace of mind of being where they want me, at the club of my life and I have this offer right now that I value as very positive.'

Manchester United 'are confident of sealing a cut-price £50m deal for top target Frenkie de Jong' - despite the midfielder wanting to stay at Barcelona - as Erik ten Hag looks to replace Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard this summer

* Manchester United are reportedly in talks to sign Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong
* The 25-year-old will need persuading as he revealed his desire to stay in Spain
* New United boss Erik ten Hag wants his former Ajax star to replace Paul Pogba
* The Red Devils are light in midfield with Pogba and Jesse Lingard both leaving

Manchester United are reportedly confident of sealing a cut price deal of £50million for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to replace the outgoing Paul Pogba.

United are said to have opened talks with the Catalan giants about a potential deal with new boss Erik ten Hag needing to bring in midfielders this summer.

However, the 25-year-old may need more persuading to leave than Barca do to let him go after stating earlier this week that he is already at his 'dream club'.

The financially-crippled Spanish club needs to cut costs and boss Xavi is understood to be prepared to let the Dutch midfielder leave.

Although the former Ajax star would prefer to stay at the Nou Camp and battle for his place in the squad, new boss Erik ten Hag is keen to add the midfielder as a replacement for Pogba, according to The Sun.

De Jong, however, told ESPN earlier this week: 'I prefer to stay with Barcelona. Barcelona is just my dream club. Also from a young age. I just said it too.

'I've never regretted my choice despite the fact that I had hoped for more in terms of prizes than I've achieved so far. But I have never regretted my choice.'

The Holland international midfielder starred under Ten Hag at Ajax between 2016 and 2019 and is said to be available for around £65m if Barca can replace the 25-year-old with a major name.

Man United are confident of sealing a £50million deal for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. United's new boss Erik ten Hag is keen to add De Jong as a replacement for Paul Pogba. The Holland international midfielder starred under Ten Hag at Ajax between 2016 and 2019

De Jong made 47 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions this season, scoring four times from midfield.

He joined Barcelona from Ajax for £64m back in 2019, but the likes of Pedri and Gavi are ahead of him in the pecking order, therefore De Jong may have to make way in order for Barcelona to pursue targets such as Robert Lewandowski.

United have plenty of work to do in this transfer window after a miserable season with the new boss keen to revamp his squad.

One area where the Red Devils are extremely light is in midfield after confirming both Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard have left the club while Nemanja Matic is also leaving.

The club acknowledged their departures in a statement, wishing them both well for the remainder of their careers.

'We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Jesse for all of the memories he's helped create during his two decades here and wish him the best of luck in his future career,' United stated following the Lingard announcement.

And they also bid farewell to Pogba: 'Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United.'

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag 'has turned his attention to signing Christian Eriksen on a free transfer' as an alternative to Frenkie de Jong... with the Dutchman 'impressed by the Dane's desire' after he trained with Ajax this year

* Erik ten Hag is interested in signing Christian Eriksen on a free transfer
* Eriksen is seen as an alternative option if United don't sign Frenkie de Jong
* Ten Hag was impressed with Eriksen when he trained with Ajax earlier this year
* 30-year-old is set to become a free agent with his Brentford contract expiring

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is interested in signing Christian Eriksen on a free transfer this summer.

Eriksen's short-term contract at Brentford expires at the end of this month and ten Hag is eager to bolster his squad.

The Dutchman could make as many as six major signings as he looks to drastically improve United's fortunes, and he has been hugely impressed by the impact that Eriksen has made at Brentford.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is one of United's key targets but Eriksen is an alternative option if that deal fails to materialise.

Although Barcelona would be willing to sell him for around £70million, de Jong is not entirely convinced about heading to Old Trafford.

United are far from the only club interested in Eriksen, with Everton and his former employers Tottenham also considering a deal.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is interested in signing Christian Eriksen. Eriksen's desire impressed ten Hag when he trained with Ajax before signing for Brentford. United have identified Eriksen as an alternative option if they cannot sign Frenkie de Jong. Eriksen trained with Ajax in January before he completed his move to Brentford

Eriksen scored once and provided four assists in eleven Premier League appearances after joining Brentford in January. It was his first involvement in competitive football since his cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020 last year.

Ten Hag monitored Eriksen's progress when he allowed the midfielder to train with Ajax while he was building up his sharpness. During that time ten Hag was impressed with Eriksen's desire.

Eriksen joined Ajax as a youngster and played for the Dutch club at senior level between 2010 and 2013 before joining Tottenham, where he earned much praise for his performances. He remained at the north London club until January 2020, when he signed for Inter Milan.

United are in need of extra additions in terms of quality but also in numbers, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic all leaving with their contracts set to expire.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich 'are interested in highly-rated Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries', with the Italian giants open to selling him if it means they can keep Tottenham target Alessandro Bastoni

* Denzel Dumfries is of high interest to Manchester United and Bayern Munich
* The Dutch right-back, 26, currently plays for Italian giants Inter Milan
* Inter are open to selling the player if they can keep hold of Alessandro Bastoni
* The Italian centre back has been heavily linked with a move away from Milan
* Bayern have already signed a right-back, while Erik ten Hag is starting his rebuild

Manchester United and Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in singing Inter Milan's highly-rated right-back Denzel Dumfries this summer.

Dutch defender Dumfries enjoyed a hugely successful season in Milan, scoring five goals and assisting seven more since arriving for £12.3million from PSV last year.

Though Inter have already lost Ivan Perisic on a free transfer to Tottenham this summer, they are open to selling Dumfries if it means they can retain the services of Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni, according to Calciomercato.

Inter have a history of letting top quality right-backs go in recent years, having allowed Achraf Hakimi to leave for PSG for £59.85m last summer and failing to make Joao Cancelo's successful loan spell from Valencia permanent in 2018.

Denzel Dumfries could take Aaron Wan-Bissaka's place in Manchester United's starting lineup. Inter Milan could be prepared to sacrifice the right-back who played in 45 matches this season

Calciomercato report that Inter may look to the likes of Lazio's Manuel Lazzarri, Juventus' Juan Cuadrado, or Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazilian right back Dodo to replace Dumfries, although they may face competition for the latter from Fiorentina.

And with Dumfries under contract at the Italian giants until June 2025, they look likely to at least recoup the fee they spent on the player a year ago.

The prospect of being part of Erik ten Hag's hugely anticipated Manchester United rebuild is one that few young Dutch players would likely be able to say no to, and United are surely set to offer lucrative enough deals that no player would want to turn them down.

Bundesliga champions Bayern on the other hand have recently confirmed the free transfer signing of Ajax's Moroccan right-back Noussair Mazraoui, having won the title for the tenth season in a row, so it is less clear where Dumfries may fit in their plans.

Regardless, it is clear that the priority for the Serie A runners up is keeping Bastoni on their books amid heavy interest in his services from across Europe's elite.

The Italian centre-back has become one of Spurs' top transfer targets in recent weeks, with Antonio Conte knowing the player well from their time at Inter Milan together two years ago.

Speaking to Football Italia, Bastoni's agent Tullio Tinti revealed: 'He [Bastoni] is certainly a big fan of the team he plays for, so he will happily remain at Inter.

'However, he is also a professional. This is football and he has to adjust. It's clear he is very happy to play for Inter and feels this jersey like a tattoo on his skin.'
