Jose Mourinho wants Harry Kane at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho wants Harry Kane to join him at Manchester United this summer

Somtimes it's the easy way: In the Daily Mail, there's a story that Marcus Rashford was used to exploit the fact that Martin Demichelis plays like a man who died several years ago.

According to this in ESPNFC, Manchester United are lining up some summer signings. There's Mauro Icardi, and Miranda, both of whom would be large and obvious improvements on the existing players in defence and attack.

In the Mirror, Michael Carrick says he doesn't know if he'll be renewing his contract in the summer. United should let him go. One mediocre performance against Manchester City in an important win shouldn't override the evidence that the rest of his efforts this season haven't been enough.

The Manchester Evening News has some rumours which include links to Harry Kane and Saul Niguez. Real Madrid want David de Gea. It just never ends, does it. There's not a great deal to say today. Bye.

Who Is Renato Sanches and What Would He Bring to Manchester United?

Renato Sanches is an 18-year old midfielder, currently playing a staring role for Portuguese Liga table-topping Benfica.

He has just been called up to the senior Portugal international squad for the first time ahead of their friendlies with Bulgaria and Belgium. This, of course, has raised the prospect of the highly rated youngster's potential inclusion in the squad for Euro 2016.

Fernando Santos, the national team coach of the Seleccao, has made it clear, per Reuters' Brian Homewood (via MailOnline), that the selection for the forthcoming friendlies "is definitely not the final list for the Euros." He said of Sanches' inclusion, "We are going to have a chance to look at him closely, in the day-to-day work, which involves much more than what happens on the pitch.”

Sanches has been linked with Manchester United, with Simon Jones of MailOnline reporting:

Quote:
Talks are ongoing with Benfica over a proposed £46million summer transfer for the 18-year-old who has made just 20 first team appearances since his debut in October.

United opened discussions in January for the talented teenager and are willing to structure a deal similar to the one they struck with Monaco for Anthony Martial with staggered payments but Benfica are pushing for £31million up front with £15m in add-ons.
As for what he would bring to United, Tom Kundert of PortuGOAL, writing for the Mirror in January, describes Sanches as "a true box-to-box midfielder." Ander Herrera is probably the only midfielder at United who fits that description, and he leans towards attacking midfield.

Kundert writes:

Quote:
The transformation in [Benfica's] results [they endured a difficult start to the season before Sanches made his breakthrough] has been as remarkable as the ease with which teenager Sanches has taken to top-level football. For someone so inexperienced, Sanches plays with a disconcerting swagger and self-assurance, demanding the ball and driving his team forward from his central midfield position in a manner you would expect of a seasoned veteran.
Sky Sports write:

Quote:
He's a player who likes to try and help dictate the tempo in the Benfica midfield, with his influence earning him a regular starting role.

The 18-year-old has been a standout on the pitch, with his braided hair also drawing comparisons to legendary Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids. His profile may suit Manchester United and Arsenal if they wish to add a greater layer of physicality to their midfield.
Bleacher Report's world football tactics lead writer Sam Tighe is torn on Sanches, expressing admiration for his qualities, but expressing some concern around his mentality in games when things are not going for him.

Of course, Sanches is young, and those rough edges can be improved through coaching and endeavour. He would fit the profile of the squad United are building—a young group capable of growing together. Whether he is ready for the pressure that would come along with the kind of figures being discussed remains to be seen.

There is also the issue of the step up in quality from the Portuguese Liga to the Premier League. Memphis Depay has faced obvious difficulties adapting to the Premier League style where he is afforded less time on the ball. The same could certainly be the case for Sanches.

From a United perspective it would be helpful to see him in action in Euro 2016. Portugal have been drawn in Group F with Austria, Iceland and Hungary, which should offer them progression to the latter stages, wherein they—and Sanches—will come up against tough competition.

Manchester United Transfer News: Toni Kroos Fee, Latest Michael Carrick Rumours

Manchester United are reportedly set to offer Real Madrid €50 million (£39 million) for Toni Kroos to beat Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain to the player this summer.

That’s according to RMC (h/t Tom Coast of Sport Witness), who state that while the three juggernauts of European football are interested in the former Bayern Munich man, it’s United who are considering putting a package together. Coast also writes that, according to the RMC piece, Real would want a minimum of €45 million to consider cashing in.

The main attribute is an astounding range and accuracy of passing. Pinging the ball just looks so natural to Kroos, whether darting passes into the feet of forwards and attacking midfielders or nonchalantly switching the play out to Real’s rampaging full-backs. Despite the criticism that has come his way this campaign, the German remains a class act.

Although United are well stocked in central midfield, the chance to sign a player of this standard is not one they should let slip by without a battle. Alongside an orthodox holding player like Morgan Schneiderlin—a luxury Kroos often doesn’t enjoy at the Santiago Bernabeu—he would thrive, knowing he could concentrate on shuttling forward and dictating play.

The sums mentioned are steep, but for a world-class player, they aren’t too excessive and certainly not out of the price range of a club like United. According to Adam Crafton of the MailOnline, current manager Louis van Gaal pulled the plug on a deal for the player in 2014, although you suspect if the chance came around again, the Red Devils would love to snap Kroos up.

Carrick Linked with West Ham Return

According to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, West Ham United are considering a move for their former player Michael Carrick, whose Manchester United contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign.

"The midfielder has also attracted interest from clubs in the US, including LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls, and could move to the MLS at the end of the season," adds the piece, also noting the man himself has revealed there has been no intention signalled by the club to offer him terms on a new deal.

Despite his advancing years and perennial injury problems, the 34-year-old remains a crucial influence when out on the field. As these figures from FourFourTwo’s Stats Zone illustrate, in Sunday’s Manchester derby triumph, the veteran was marvellous.

It’s a difficult scenario for the player, who will surely feel as though he’s capable of prolonging his career at the top level. United still look a better side with him at the base of their midfield, although he won’t be around forever, is often sidelined with injuries and perhaps, with links to players like Kroos, he may find minutes tougher to come by in 2016-17.

West Ham would be an intriguing option for Carrick, too. The club are clearly going places, with a vibrant team and a fine stadium to move into next season. That’s a project most players would love to be part of, so if United are indeed keen on keeping him at Old Trafford for next season or beyond, they may well have to act quickly.

Manchester United winning race with Chelsea and Arsenal to sign Feyenoord wonderkid Tahith Chong... and Real Madrid's Toni Kroos is also on the radar

* Chong could be joined by Toni Kroos as United monitor the German

Manchester United are close to finalising terms for Feyenoord midfielder Tahith Chong.

The 16-year-old has been on the club's radar for just over 18 months after impressing scouts playing in the Premier Cup tournament.

Sportsmail revealed in January that Chelsea and Arsenal had both made efforts to sign Chong but that he was favouring a move to United.

TAHITH CHONG

DOB: December 4, 1999

Club: Feynoord

Position: Attacking midfielder/forward

Chong has been capped by Holland at Under 17, U16 and U15 levels
Feyenoord put forward a strong case for him to stay and as recently as February Chong was quoted as saying that his first choice would be to remain with the Dutch club and progress to their first team.

However the progress of youngsters such as Timothy Fosu-Mensah at Old Trafford has offered encouragement to the Feyenoord youngster.

Chong is no stranger to going abroad to play his football. Born in Willemstad, the capital city of the Caribbean island nation of Curacao, Chong moved to Holland and has been a part of the Feyenoord academy set-up since the age of 10.

Toni Kroos is thought to considering a move with United, Manchester City and PSG interested

He has been capped at U17 level by Holland and can play as a left winger, striker or in midfield.

Meanwhile, United, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have been sounded out over a move for Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.

The Germany international was close to signing for previous United boss David Moyes in 2014 but Louis van Gaal vetoed the deal and Kroos opted for Madrid when he left Bayern Munich.

The 26-year-old though is considering a move away this summer.

Manchester United will have to stump up £47million to land attacking midfielder

Manchester United always seem to be in the conversation when the latest young starlet of the footballing world has been born, and that happens to be the case once again here. According to the Daily Telegraph, United are interested in bringing in SL Benfica’s Renato Sanches this summer.

The young midfielder has been making a real name for himself back in his homeland of Portugal, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United all battling it out to land the 18-year old.

However he will not come cheaply, and with all these clubs fighting for him, Benfica are asking for a massive £47million in terms of a total transfer fee – including a huge £30million up front.

This is a huge amount of money on someone so young, especially when you are investing purely in talent rather than proven quality. It would be a massive gamble, but its one United can afford to make with the amount of money at their disposal.

Bayern, United want Murillo?

Reports say Manchester United and Bayern Munich will fight to sign Inter defender Jeison Murillo this summer.

Gazzetta dello Sport believes that the Colombia international has attracted the interest of the two European giants after an impressive debut season with the Nerazzurri.

The newspaper writes that Bayern, who will have Carlo Ancelotti as their new Coach in the summer, have targeted the centre-back.

The outlet also says that United are particularly likely to make a move should Jose Mourinho become their new manager.

The Portuguese watched Murillo during Inter’s win over Sampdoria on 20 February and could be willing to spend up to €35m on him.

However, Gazzetta says this sum is excessive and that the San Siro club would accept bids of €25m, but none below €18m.

Should he depart, PSV’s Jeffrey Bruma, Ajax’s Joel Veltman and Schalke’s Roman Neudstadter have all been suggested as possible replacements.

However, Genoa’s Armando Izzo could be the ideal candidate as he has already been tracked by Inter, would arrive at a lower cost, is Italian and already knows Serie A well.

Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Raphael Varane, Renato Sanches Rumours

Real Madrid star Raphael Varane is reportedly “keen” to join Manchester United, while the latest rumours say Jose Mourinho will receive a £250 million war chest to spend in the summer transfer window if he becomes the next Red Devils manager. And, of that massive transfer kitty, £50 million has been reserved for Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches.

According to French outlet Le10Sport.com (h/t Daily Express' James Dickenson), Varane could be tempted to join United, as he believes they would offer an "interesting challenge.”

The report says his status as a secondary option behind starters Sergio Ramos and Pepe might impact his decision, but Varane has become a regular in the rotation under new manager Zinedine Zidane and has appeared in more La Liga matches than either player, per WhoScored.com.

Mourinho played a key role in Varane's emergence as a star defender at Real Madrid, and the two have been persistently linked ever since. The 22-year-old has always been full of praise for the former Chelsea boss and credited him for his development during an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche (h/t Mark Critchley of the Independent).

Varane has very few weaknesses. He's a willing and able tackler who has the physical strength to boss attackers around, but his vision and positioning are also excellent, and he doesn't always have to engage forwards physically.

He's shown improvements to his aerial game and is a capable passer, as evidenced by his pass completion percentage, which sits close to 90 percent for the season, per WhoScored.com.

His strong form has carried over to the national team, where he has found plenty of success playing alongside Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho.

Few top clubs around Europe wouldn't want to add Varane to their squad, and while he still seems happy in Madrid, Los Blancos' tendency to rotate their defenders will always lead to speculation. Speaking to L'Equipe (h/t MailOnline's John Downes), he has already admitted he wants to play every match, which simply isn't an option in Madrid.

But convincing the youngster to leave Madrid won't be easy. He also told L'Equipe (h/t ESPN.co.uk) Zidane played a key role in convincing him to move to the Spanish capital, and the World Cup winner won't be keen on selling his star defender.

Real have the financial power to turn down just about any offer, and with a transfer embargo on the horizon, they'll do whatever they can to keep hold of all their players, per Ed Malyon of the Daily Mirror.

Meanwhile, the Sun's Matt Heath-Smith claims Mourinho will be handed no less than £250 million to upgrade his squad if he becomes the next United manager, and Sanches, who is expected to cost around £47 million, sits high on the Special One's wish list.

The 18-year-old has been one of the top breakout players of the 2015-16 campaign, playing a big role in Benfica's run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

United scouts reportedly watched him during Portugal's friendly against Belgium on Tuesday, where he held his own against the likes of Axel Witsel and Radja Nainggolan.

Sanches flashes a lot of potential as a box-to-box midfielder, showing all of the physical traits scouts look for in such a player. He's fast, strong and technically able, and he's not afraid to engage his opponents and use all means to push them off the ball.

The youngster still has a lot of flaws to correct in the attacking third, as he often makes the wrong decisions, can get wayward with his passing and sometimes plays with his head down, but those are things proper coaching can correct. From a talent perspective, he has everything to become a world-class midfielder.

A move for Sanches is risky, as he's probably not ready to make an immediate impact in a top league like the Premier League, and he has some major flaws that need to be corrected, per Tom Kundert of the Daily Mirror. But there's a reason he's reportedly worth close to £50 million: If nurtured correctly, Sanches could become a major star.

Manchester United Transfer News: 'World-Class Striker' Wanted, Latest Rumours

A “world-class” striker is reportedly Manchester United’s priority in the summer transfer window, as the club seeks to trigger a charge back towards the top of the Premier League.

That’s according to Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey, who outlined the thinking behind this transfer plot.

“United are in the market for an A-list front man as they attempt to reinforce a squad that has had a disappointing season,” he wrote. “… A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Jose Mourinho, who is set to be installed at Old Trafford at the end of the season, wants a 'world-class' forward who can score 30-plus goals a season.”

One of the forwards touted as a potential option for the Red Devils is Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain, who is enjoying a remarkable campaign. Veysey said United are “closely monitoring” the striker, although he’d potentially cost a whopping £74 million to prise away from Serie A. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are also said to be keeping tabs on the player.

It’s been a tremendous season for the Argentina international, who has netted 29 league goals so far.

Veysey offered some hope to United fans of this one potentially getting over the line, suggesting talks have not begun between the 28-year-old and the club over a new contract, which is set to expire in 2018.

It’s also noted in the piece that the Red Devils have Inter Milan man Mauro Icardi on their radar. While not as prolific as his compatriot Higuain, the 23-year-old is also a very talented striker and a player with the predatory instincts to make a difference at Old Trafford.

After a difficult beginning to the season, and a spell on the bench after the turn of the year, Icardi has rediscovered the kind of form that saw him share the Capocannoniere in 2014-15, when he netted 22 Serie A goals along with Luca Toni.

As these numbers from Squawka Football illustrate, Icardi is a natural in front of goal:

Quote:
Most Serie A goals over the last 2 seasons:

G.Higuaín (44)
M.Icardi (34)
P.Dybala (27)
L.Toni (27)
D.Berardi (21)
At the moment he isn’t befitting of a “world-class” moniker, though. In terms of finishing, perhaps, but in others areas of his game Icardi has a lot of work to do.

Higuain, by contrast, is one of the best centre-forwards on the planet, performing at the absolute peak of his powers. If United want a player that can come in and make an immediate impact, the Napoli star would be perfect. But as is evident by his monster release clause, those types of strikers come at a significant premium.
