HOUSTON TO HOST MANCHESTER DERBY ON TOUR

The venue for this summer's Manchester derby as part of Tour 2017, presented by Aon, has been confirmed as the NRG Stadium in Houston.

United and City will meet for the first time on foreign soil on Thursday 20 July (kick-off 20:30 local time) in the International Champions Cup as both teams continue with preparations for the 2017/18 season.

The venue for the match was announced at a special event in Houston on Monday, with club legend Denis Irwin in attendance for the Reds.

In addition to being the home of the Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, NRG Stadium has played host to a number of major sporting events, including two Super Bowls, two NCAA Men’s Final Fours, Copa America, Gold Cup and various top international soccer matches featuring the United States Women’s and Men’s National Teams, the Mexican Men’s National Team and some of the top football clubs in the world.

“The game in Houston gives our large US family of fans another chance to see the team play live,” said United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. “The last time we played in Houston, over 70,000 packed the stadium and we are looking forward to entertaining them again.”

United last played there (in its old guise of Reliant Stadium) in 2010 when the Reds ran out 5-2 winners against the MLS All-Stars. Goals from Federico Macheda (2), Darron Gibson, Tom Cleverley and a debut strike from new signing Javier Hernandez sealed a memorable victory in front of a sell-out crowd.

Tickets for this summer's Manchester derby will go on sale to the general public on 23 May. Further details will follow in due course.

The Reds will play six matches as part of Tour 2017, presented by Aon, including games against City, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Visit www.ManUtd.com/Tour2017 for full fixture and ticket news.

Reds to play tour match in Dublin

• Seventh game for United this summer
• Game to take place in Dublin

Manchester United will travel to Ireland this summer for the team’s seventh game of its Tour 2017, presented by Aon.

United will head to Dublin to face Italian club UC Sampdoria at the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday 2 August, kick-off 19:45 BST.

The trip to the Irish capital comes after five games in the USA for Jose Mourinho’s men against MLS opposition, the first Manchester derby outside the UK and highly anticipated clashes against Real Madrid and Barcelona, followed by a match against Norwegian side Valerenga in Oslo at the end of July.

Commenting on the club’s summer plans, United’s executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward, said: “The team has a good variety of games over the summer, playing in great stadiums and allowing a large number of our global family of fans to see live games across the world.

“The pre-season programme has been put together to ensure the manager and his squad have a great platform to prepare for next season with games against top-class opposition.”

Richard Endersen, CEO of Aon Risk Solutions Ireland, said: “Every day, in Ireland and around the world, Aon works with organisations including Manchester United to empower results by reducing volatility and finding opportunities to improve performance. We are proud to support the club on their journey to greatness and look forward to welcoming them back to Ireland as part of Tour 2017.”

Tickets for the match at the 51,000-seater stadium will go on sale from 11:00 BST on Tuesday 23 May for members, with a general sale commenced from 11:00 BST on Thursday 25 May. Full ticket information, along with a complete schedule of the club’s pre-season plans can be found online at www.manutd.com/Tour2017

Quote:
New Manchester United youngsters to train with first-team in pre-season
Man Utd players like Angel Gomes and Josh Harrop made their debuts in the fixture vs Crystal Palace and more youngsters are set to be promoted by Jose Mourinho.

BY SAMUEL LUCKHURST - MEN
07:00, 23 MAY 2017

Jose Mourinho has already promised a number of Manchester United teenagers they will train with the first-team during pre-season.

Mourinho handed full debuts to academy graduates Joel Pereira, Demetri Mitchell, Scott McTominay and Josh Harrop against Crystal Palace on Sunday, while late substitute Angel Gomes became the fourth-youngest player in the club's history at 16 years and 263 days.

M.E.N. Sport understands Mourinho is set to continue to show dedication to United's academy by drafting in a host of younger players to participate in pre-season training with a view to being included in the tour squad of the United States.

Scottish midfielder Ethan Hamilton, 18, is believed to be one of the players set to make the step up after an exceptional campaign for the Under-18s and Reserves. The academy captain was mentored by Darren Fletcher when he first moved to Manchester from Edinburgh and Hamilton scored twice in the U18s' recent defeat to Blackburn.

Defender Tyrell Warren - who was namechecked by Mourinho on the day of his unveiling - could also join the senior set-up while Gomes and Zachary Dearnley are expected to continue to train with the seniors.

United could play eight games in 24 days before the Premier League season begins on August 19 after they announced a seventh pre-season tour fixture against Sampdoria in Dublin on August 2. Should United defeat Ajax in the Europa League final they will play either Juventus or Real Madrid in the European Super Cup on August 8.

Louis van Gaal called up James Weir, Donald Love, Sean Goss and Callum Gribbin to first-team training ahead of the 2015-16 season. Goss performed impressively enough to be selected in the pre-season tour squad, where he played against Paris Saint-Germain in United's Chicago defeat.

Mourinho sold Weir, Love and Goss earlier this season while Gribbin, 18, has occasionally trained with the seniors during international breaks.

Mourinho's determination to blood youngsters while strengthening during the summer transfer window suggests United's player turnover could be greater than initially expected. Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said in February United would not 'churn a large number of players' after Van Gaal presided over drastic squad overhauls in successive summers.

However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has almost certainly played his last United game and Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj seem certain to leave, while numerous players' contracts expire next year and uncertainty surrounds David de Gea's situation.

Defender Chris Smalling's long-term United career could also be in jeopardy after regressing under Mourinho.
Kesempatan besar buat pemain muda nih.

Your guide to Manchester United's summer

The 2016/17 season was the second-longest in Manchester United's 139-year history but, after their summer breaks, the players will soon be back to work, with a busy schedule planned ahead of the new campaign in August.

With several high-profile fixtures to look forward to during Tour 2017, presented by Aon, as well as the chance to win yet more silverware in the shape of the UEFA Super Cup before the Premier League kicks off again, the Reds have an exciting and important couple of months in store. And you'll be able to watch every tour game live on MUTV.Here is our guide to the key dates and opposition awaiting Jose Mourinho's men this summer...

8 JULY - Pre-season begins
It's a little over four weeks until the players return to Manchester to begin pre-season preparations, before flying out to America to get some minutes under their belts. Speaking at the end of April, Mourinho said: "The group, when we meet again for next season, is a strong group. The new players, when they will arrive, will find a group more ready to go for big things."

15 JULY -
LA Galaxy v UNITED, StubHub Center (Last meeting: won 7-0, July 2014)
The Reds kick off Tour 2017, presented by Aon, against LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles, where we will be looking for a repeat of the 7-0 victory over the MLS side during our last meeting in July 2014. Almost 90,000 fans turned out to see United in action that night at the Rose Bowl, and Mourinho's side will hope to get off to the perfect start once again.

7 JULY -
Real Salt Lake v UNITED, Rio Tinto Stadium (this will be the teams' first meeting)
Two days later, United make a first-ever trip to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake at the 20,000 capacity Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy. RSL were only founded 13 years ago and will undoubtedly relish the occasion, having faced Real Madrid, Everton and Inter Milan in recent years.

20 JULY - UNITED v Manchester City, NRG Stadium (Last meeting: drew 0-0, April 2017)

Then, the Reds face a familiar foe on unfamiliar territory, in the first-ever Manchester derby to be played outside of the UK. The game at the NRG Stadium in Houston will be United's first in this year's International Champions Cup - a competition we won back in 2014 - and it will be a great chance for the players to gauge their pre-season progress against Premier League opposition.

23 JULY - UNITED v Real Madrid, Levi's Stadium (Last meeting: won 3-1, August 2014)
The big games continue to come thick and fast, as Mourinho's men make the four-hour flight back to California to take on Spanish and European champions Real Madrid, who we last faced in front of over 109,000 fans during Tour 2014. Our latest meeting will be held at the 68,000-seater Levi's Stadium, home of NFL team San Francisco 49ers, and is sure to be a highlight of this summer's trip.

26 JULY - UNITED v FC Barcelona, FedEx Field (Last meeting: won 3-1, July 2015)
Next up, following another flight across the country, the Reds take on La Liga giants Barcelona in Landover, Maryland. The final match in the States is also expected to draw the biggest crowd, with FedEx Field capable of holding up to 82,000 spectators. The sides last met during pre-season two years ago, with United running out 3-1 winners.

30 JULY - Valerenga IF v UNITED, Ullevaal Stadium (Last meeting: drew 0-0, August 2012)
Four days later, it's back to Europe for our penultimate pre-season tour game, against Norwegian side Valerenga at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo. This meeting will be the first between the sides for almost exactly five years, following a goalless draw during pre-season in 2012, as well as an important one for the club's well-established fanbase in Scandinavia.

2 AUGUST - UNITED v UC Sampdoria, Aviva Stadium (this will be the teams' first meeting)
The seventh and final game of Tour 2017 sees Mourinho and United up against Sampdoria at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, just 10 days before the start of the new Premier League campaign. It's set to be a special occasion for Reds goalkeeper Sergio Romero, who played for the Italian side between 2011 and 2015.

8 AUGUST - Real Madrid v UNITED, Philip II Arena (Last meeting: won 3-1, August 2014)
There's room for one more date in our pre-season diary. United will travel to Skopje, Macedonia on 8 August for a second encounter in as many weeks with Real Madrid, this time to compete for the UEFA Super Cup. It's the annual clash between the winners of the Champions League and Europa League, with Real booking their place by beating Juventus 4-1 in the final at the start of June.
Then, of course, it's back to business...

MOURINHO PREDICTS "AMAZING" DERBY ON TOUR

Jose Mourinho believes fans are in for an "amazing" experience when Houston hosts the first Manchester derby to be played outside the UK on Thursday 20 July.

United and local rivals City will meet 4,700 miles from home in an International Champions Cup fixture, one of seven matches on the Reds' Tour 2017, presented by Aon.

The game, which will be shown live on MUTV, comes 12 months after the first attempt to stage an overseas derby was cancelled due to bad weather in Beijing and Mourinho says he will use it to do further important work on his side's preparations for 2017/18.

The manager told ManUtd.com recently: "Without the European Championships or the World Cup this summer, I think every club will start the pre-season period with all of their players. I’m going to have the chance to try things and to work on things and [Pep] Guardiola will do the same for sure.

"For me, and probably for him, the result of the game will not be the most important thing but [it’s about] the quality of the football we play and trying to put into practice the things we will work on in the days and weeks before.

"I think for the fans it will be amazing because they have two of the big clubs and it’s a derby. Last summer we couldn’t play this game in China but now we will play it in great conditions, the organisation will be at the top level and I think it’s a great opportunity for us and for City to show ourselves in America and to prepare ourselves for the new Premier League season."

Mourinho says he has enjoyed experiencing the passion for football in Manchester during his first year at the club and says he is impressed by the respectful relationship between United and City.

"I like it [the rivalry]," he declared. "And I like it because I think it’s a good rivalry. We played each other three times in the last season – two matches in the Premier League and once in the League Cup – and they were good games, competitive matches with close results – 2-1, 1-0, 0-0.

"There was good emotion and I always felt there was good, fair play and good relations between the players who are rivals on the pitch but living in the same city. They probably they see each other around the place! With the fans I felt passion but respect. It’s one of these kinds of rivalries that I think are only good for both clubs."

When asked to compare the Manchester derby with similar contest he's experienced elsewhere, he acknowledged: "I have done all the big ones. Inter against Milan, Real Madrid against Atletico and Barcelona, Porto against Benfica, lots of London derbies when I was at Chelsea and now this one.

"All of them are different but all of them are the same. They are different because the cultures are different and the clubs are different, but they are all the same because they always become a little bit more than three points and a bit more than just a game because of that emotional factor."

Tickets for Manchester United v Manchester City at Houston's NRG Stadium went on general sale on Wednesday, 7 June. For more information, see www.manutd.com/tour2017.

SIR ALEX : TOUR TEAMS ARE IDEAL OPPONENTS

Sir Alex Ferguson says the challenge posed by the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Real Madrid during Tour 2017, presented by Aon, can only help the Manchester United players for when the real tests come around.

The Reds will kick off the summer tour with five games in the United States - two friendlies against Major League Soccer sides LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake, before International Champions Cup (ICC) meetings with City and the two giant clubs from Spain. After returning from America, the Reds will play further matches in Oslo against Norwegian side Valerenga and in Dublin where Italian club Sampdoria will provide the opposition at the start of August. All of the games will be shown live on MUTV.

Sir Alex, who was back at Old Trafford earlier this month to manage the Reds in Michael Carrick's testimonial, led United on tour against high-profile opposition on a number of occasions of course and he's excited by this summer's upcoming fixtures.

"The great thing about United is you've got to accept the challenge of beating the best," the former manager told ManUtd.com at the tour launch.

"The expectation is always there and the matches we'll face in the ICC are all big ones. It's very good for the younger players to come into this type of competition in terms of preparing to be a Manchester United player. The more intense the challenge they can get, the better prepared they will be when facing Manchester City in an important league match or Real Madrid or Barcelona in Europe.

"The preparation to play in games as big as that can be started in pre-season tournaments like the ICC, which is fantastic."

The Reds' tour clash with Real Madrid in 2014 attracted a record crowd for a soccer match in the United States (109,318) and Sir Alex, a regular visitor to the country for work and pleasure, is expecting fans to once again be out in their droves to support the team during Tour 2017, presented by Aon.

"Every time we come to the States we get a full house and that tells you everything," he added.

Default Re: Manchester United : The Unmissable Tour 2017

SMALLING: WE TAKE WINNING MENTALITY ON TOUR

Chris Smalling experienced his first taste of life with Manchester United during the 2010 tour of the United States and he's relishing another transatlantic trip for Tour 2017, presented by Aon, which starts in 20 days' time. Before he went on holiday, we grabbed the 27-year-old defender to talk all things tour...

When someone says 'pre-season' to you what immediately springs to mind?
Hard work and travelling, but being able to play football in different countries is a joy. The games are my favourite thing about being on tour.

What else do you enjoy about going on tour to the United States?
Seeing new places and training at different facilities. It’s nice to see and learn about different cultures in life and sport and we quite often train at other sports teams’ facilities so it’s good to pick up little things from them.

We’ll face Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City among other teams on tour this year – how will playing sides like that help with the preparations for the new season?

They’re the kind of teams that we should be testing ourselves against in pre-season. Getting up to speed with that calibre of opposition can only bode well for when the season actually starts.

Is there always a buzz about games like those, even when they are friendlies?

Yes 100 per cent. It doesn’t matter if it’s a friendly or a big Champions League game, you always want to win. Everyone’s mentality is always the same in those games and in every game we play.

What are your memories of your first tour to the US in 2010?
I remember being amazed by quite a lot of it. You see how much goes into the whole set-up when you're on tour, I’d never experienced anything like that before. Seeing how big the club is and the huge fanbase we have in another part of a world was brilliant. I would say my first tour is my favourite one.

What are you most looking forward to about this summer’s tour?
Being a part of it all because last summer I was involved in the European Championships with England. I’m just looking forward to getting a full pre-season under my belt and being ready for the start of the season.

Which is your favourite American city?
Los Angeles.

Which is your favourite US sport, and who is your favourite American sportsperson?
Basketball, and LeBron James.

Which is the best tour game you have played in?

Probably the one against Liverpool in Miami [in 2014] when we won the tournament [the International Champions Cup] by beating them in the final. We were unbeaten in that pre-season so it was a good one for us. And it's always good to win a trophy of course!
