Manchester United revise £30m offer for Villarreal's Eric Bailly as Jose Mourinho also moves for Chelsea's Nemanja Matic

Manchester United have revised their offer for Villarreal defender Eric Bailly to £25million plus an extra £5m in bonuses.

The Old Trafford club are looking to reach accord with the Spanish side over a £30million deal for the 22-year-old centre-back and have made initial inquiries for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, as reported in Sportsmail.

Villarreal are happy to let Bailly go considering they stand to make a substantial profit on the £4.4million they paid to Espanyol for him in January 2015 but want more of the £30m fee up front.

Chelsea may not be so easy to deal with over Matic but the Serbia midfielder is keen to move.

Despite not enjoying the best relationship with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, he believes a fresh start and change of environment for his former manager can work for the benefit of his career.

Mourinho met United staff at Old Trafford on Monday and conducted an interview with club stalwart Paddy Crerand for MUTV.

Free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains another target and the three players will add a greater physical presence to the United squad.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have had an improved £27million offer for Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan rejected.

The Belgium international has stated he is happy to stay in Rome but recognises the club is looking to offload one of their stars to balance the books.

Manchester United on brink of landing Eric Bailly as £30m defender arrives for medical

Manchester United expect to confirm the signing of Eric Bailly from Villarreal for £30million after he had the first stage of his medical on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old centre back will become the first signing of Jose Mourinho’s reign and Bailly’s representatives expect an announcement to be made within the next 48 hours.

The young Ivory Coast international has been watched by Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund over the past two seasons.



Villarreal were happy to allow Bailly to depart if Manchester United made the right offer and met their terms

He joined Villarreal from Espanyol in January 2015 for £4.4million, which gives them a massive profit when he signs for United. Though quick, powerful and agile, Bailly is still raw and prone to the odd mistake but Mourinho believes he can grow into a strong presence for United as he looks to add a physical dimension to the squad.

Bailly’s former coach at Espanyol, Manolo Marquez, said: ‘I’m absolutely convinced that he’d be a success in England.

‘He’s similar to Sergio Ramos and while he’s not as good technically, he’s much stronger. Mourinho would be good for Eric because Mourinho always has his defences very well organised. He’s also the type of very strong defender he likes to work with.’

United remain interested in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and have made enquiries about Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Meanwhile, United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has admitted he cried when David Moyes was sacked. ‘I progressed a lot because of him when I came to England, at Everton and then in Manchester. When he was sacked from United, I cried. I’m not ashamed to say it because he did everything for me.’

Although Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United revolution is likely to cost more than £100 million, TheHardTackle looks at five players the Red Devils could sign for that amount.

After the appointment of Jose Mourinho as their new manager, Manchester United fans can expect significant changes to the Red Devils’ squad. The team struggled last season under the guidance of Louis van Gaal with a seemingly unattractive brand of football. Miralem Pjanic – £30 million (AS Roma)

First position that Manchester United will look to strengthen is the heart of midfield. An aging Carrick, an ailing Schweinsteiger and a seemingly off-color Morgan Schneiderlin exposed the Mancunian club several times in key games. With the possibility of the Roma board willing to accept an offer in the range of £30million, Mourinho would love to grab the opportunity with both hands.

Taking nothing away from Daley Blind who has done an exceptional job at something which isn’t his strength, to win trophies and to compete in Europe requires a more conventional defender.




According to a report in the Guardian, Manchester United are increasingly likely to sign Ivorian Eric Bailly from Villarreal after having agreed to pay £15million plus add-ons, which could increase the overall transfer amount in the future to £30million. Bailly played a crucial role in helping Ivory Coast win the African Cup of Nations having played all 6 matches in the tournament.

Andre Gomes – £35 million (Valencia)

Another midfielder that has been extensively linked with Manchester United this summer is Andre Gomes. United had missed out on getting his signature last year. According to the Daily Star, Man United have made a £35 million bid for the Portuguese midfielder that could activate his release clause. Seperti yg diharapkan banyak fans, United butuh CB baru. Berharapnya yg bergabung pemain berkelas dgn skill mumpuni yg logisnya mahal seperti Stone, Varane atau Marquinhos. Tp yang datang pemain tidak dikenal yg skillnya blom banyak diketahui tapi harganya mahal (klo bener 30jt pound). Tapi semoga pemain pilihan Mou jauh lebih baik dr manajer sebelumnya yg buang2 duit tp pemain nyaris flop semua.

Klo dilihat dr sejarah transfer United di era EdWood jadi bertanya2. Sebenernya nilai 30jt pound itu menunjukkan kualitas pemain atau si tukang nego yg nggak bisa nego pemain. Gabriel aja dijual kurang dr separuh nilai Bailly. Jadi, yang mana? Kualitas pemain atau kualitas EdWood?
