Dutch striker confirms he's joined Manchester United on Instagram


Feyenoord forward Tahith Chong will join the Man Utd academy this summer.



Dutch starlet Tahith Chong has announced he's joined Manchester United .


The 16-year-old will join the academy this summer after leaving Feyenoord, where he has been part of the youth set up since he was 10 .


He announced the switch on his Instagram page before adding an update on Twitter


Chong, who can play up front or in midfield, is set to be the first of a number of foreign signings to join the academy this summer as academy chief Nicky Butt begins to settle into his new job.

Butt said in March: “We’re short on a few numbers in the different age groups and it’s something we need to address, something we are addressing and something we will hopefully get over the line in the next few weeks, in time for next season.


“It’s the same as any other club. We all want to attract the best young players in Europe, at whatever age, and we’re exactly the same."

Jose Mourinho is expecting to bring at least three more new faces to Old Trafford this summer after Wednesday's £30m capture of Eric Bailly.

Sportsmail understands that a midfielder and a striker are a top priority for the Portugese, who has delighted officials at the club by making a fast start after his arrival less than a fortnight ago.

Mourinho is thought to have known for a number of months that he would be in charge either at United or Paris Saint-Germain, and identified areas he needed to strengthen and a number of players who fit the bill well in advance of replacing Louis van Gaal in Manchester.

Holding midfielder Nemanja Matic - a player Mourinho knows well from Chelsea - is also an option

Sweden targetman Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to arrive to bolster United's frontline, while Valencia's Portugese attacking midfielder Andre Gomes remains a key midfield target along with Nemanja Matic, although Chelsea would be extremely reluctant to see the more defensively-minded Serb follow Mourinho north.

Bailly, 22, put pen to paper on a four-year deal with United holding an option for another two years.

The move caps a meteoric rise for the Ivory Coast defender, who cost Villareal £4.4m when he moved to the Yellow Submarine from Espanyol a year-and-a-half ago.

Bailly, who has made 40 top flight appearances, is seen as a work in progress but United hope he will make an immediate impact.

'Eric is a young central defender with great natural talent,' said Mourinho. 'He has progressed well to date and has the potential to become one of the best around.

'We look forward to working with him to help nurture that raw talent and fulfil his potential. Eric is at the right club to continue his development.'

Mourinho was relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge in December.

He is understood to have known for some time that his next destination was likely to be either the Parc des Princes, where current incumbent Laurent Blanc is expected to be replaced in the near future following their Champions League exit at the hands of Manchester City, or Old Trafford, as Van Gaal came under serious pressure following a series of lacklustre performances.

As a result, he has been able to move quickly in the transfer market, with the relatively sharp capture of Bailly evidence of his forward planning.

Mourinho will be hoping his methods will pave the way for a successful summer shopping spree - and an avoidance of the flurries of late activity which characterised the first transfer windows of the last two appointments at United following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United join Arsenal and Juventus in race for £25million-rated Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Manchester United have made enquiries for Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Bundesliga side are willing to let the Armenian leave as he is refusing to sign a new contract and they are willing to sell for £25million.

Arsenal and Juventus have been in discussions in recent weeks with Arsenal considered favourites while Liverpool have long held an interest also.



Manchester United have made enquiries for Henrikh Mkhitaryn, who is also an Arsenal and Juventus target

The 27-year-old is looked after by Mino Raiola who also represents the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba.

United have an interest in each but are not alone. United did not include either a sell-on clause or an option to buy back Pogba. They are also continuing to pursue Chelsea's Nemanja Matic as revealed in Sportsmail in May.

Dortmund are enduring a summer of change and that is hindering Manchester City's hopes of signing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

City have made enquiries for the Gabon international and he is keen to speak to them but Dortmund have sold Ilkay Gundogan, Mats Hummels and expect Mkhitaryan to follow. They don't want to lose Aubameyang in the same summer but expect the saga to rumble on.

Man Utd press on with interest in Basel striker Embolo




Manchester United have joined the race to sign Breel Embolo from FC Basel.

Swiss website 20 Minuten suggests that United are now showing significant interest in the 19-year-old striker and could soon make a bid for his services.

Emboli is already on the radar of Tottenham, Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig but is now attracting interest from Jose Mourinho and the Red Devils.

The teenager is currently with the Switzerland quad preparing for Euro2016 which kicks off this weekend. The Swiss play Albania in Lens on Saturday in their Group A opener.

POWELL AND VALDES RELEASED BY UNITED

Nick Powell and Victor Valdes are the two first-team players who have been released by Manchester United this summer.

Powell made two substitute appearances under Louis van Gaal last season, coming off the bench against Wolfsburg and Bournemouth in December, before joining Hull City on loan. The 22-year-old signed for United from Crewe Alexandra in 2012 and scored on his debut against Wigan Athletic.

Valdes arrived as a free agent last January and made his bow when replacing injured no.1 David De Gea during the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in May 2015. He kept his place for the goalless draw at Hull in the final game of the season. The 34-year-old had a spell on loan at Standard Liege last term, helping the team win the Belgian Cup.

Another goalkeeper, George Dorrington, and attacking midfielder Oliver Rathbone, have also been released. Dorrington played 10 times for the youth team in 2015/16 while Rathbone made one appearance for the Reserves, during the Lancashire Senior Cup win at Blackpool.
