Neville Tak Mau Sebut Man. United Kandidat Juara

Mantan bek Manchester United, Gary Neville, merasa The Red Devils tak pantas dinilai sebagai kandidat juara Premier League musim ini. Pundit sepak bola Inggris itu juga merasa Manchester United harus mengubah gaya permainan mereka.



United kalah 1-2 dari Swansea di Liberty Stadium, Minggu (30/8). Kekalahan ini cukup menyakitkan karena The Red Devils lebih menguasai permainan dan mendapatkan peluang yang lebih banyak ketimbang tim tuan rumah. Neville pun mengkritik tempo permainan United dan merasa harus ada perubahan.

"Mereka benar-benar butuh yang lebih baik di depan. Anda bisa menyebut permainan tersebut sebagai gaya permainan manajer, atau pemain individu. Ada yang perlu diubah," ujar Neville seperti dilansir Sky Sports.

"Saat ini bukan waktunya menilai mereka sebagai kandidat juara. Kami menilai mereka bergerak dari posisi keempat, lalu ketiga atau kedua, karena itu adalah langkah berikutnya. United sebenarnya bisa menang di pertandingan di Liberty Stadium. Juan Mata berhasil membawa The Red Devils unggul lebih dulu pada awal babak kedua. Namun, perubahan taktik Swansea gagal diantisipasi oleh Manchester United yang akhirnya kebobolan dua gol dalam selang waktu lima menit, di mana gol itu dicetak Andre Ayew dan Bafetimbi Gomis.

Gary Neville delivered a scathing assessment of the Manchester United squad on Sunday night, claiming Louis van Gaal needs a new goalkeeper, defender and striker after they lost at Swansea.

Van Gaal made the dubious claim that United ‘dominated 85 minutes’ of the match, which they led through Juan Mata before Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis inflicted their first Premier League defeat of the season.

Sergio Romero was again selected with David de Gea’s future increasingly uncertain, but while his error helped Gomis score the winner, United legend Neville extended the blame by slamming the team’s lack of attacking intent and competency.

He said: ‘They've not got enough cutting edge. They haven't got players who can beat players in the final third, they don't create enough. For me they get lulled into thinking they are playing football really well.

‘They dominate possession but they don't dominate matches. You dominate a match by scoring goals and playing at a high tempo. Win the game and then control possession.’

Neville added: ‘They need to sort the Goalkeeper situation out. That's a big problem. Manchester United need to sign a new striker, keep De Gea and now that Jonny Evans has gone, ideally a centre back too, in the next few days.’

De Gea is understood to be close to a move to Real Madrid, with the Spanish transfer window closing on Monday. Van Gaal - who looked furious leaving the Liberty Stadium - was cryptic on the goalkeeper’s future, saying: ‘I don’t know. You can ask all the players but you have to wait and see till Manchester United make an announcement or the club where he is going to make an announcement. Otherwise he stays.

‘We have to wait and see. (I) don’t want to interfere. As a manager we have divided our tasks and the task is for (chief executive) Ed Woodward and not me. I don’t want to interfere with words or nothing. It is a process and we have to wait and see.’

He added: ‘We have coped with the situation by buying Romero. That is what we have done as a club to settle that issue. We have done it well.’

Swansea manager Garry Monk has now overseen three straight wins over United. He said: ‘It is excellent for the club. The thing for me is we won the three games on merit. This was probably the hardest of the three to win.’

Swansea’s Jonjo Shelvey capped the day by being called up to the England squad. Monk added: ‘I don’t think anyone has done as much as Jonjo in midfield. He deserves it. He said himself that it is time to grow up and he has done that. He has worked very hard.’

The result sees United go top of the table with 16 points from their opening seven fixtures this season and Neville, speaking on Sky's Monday Night Football show, said: 'It's the most I've enjoyed a game at Old Trafford in the last 18 months, in terms of just watching, and just thinking it looked like a routine 3-0 victory against an average team that they should beat.'

The 19-year-old, signed for £36million from Monaco in the summer, is proving to be a hit with fans and has managed four goals and one assist in his first five appearances in English football.

United's next game is at home against Wolfsburg in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday.

Erstwhile Danish stopper Schmeichel and Republic of Ireland legend Keane were both part of United's famed 1998-99 treble-winning season.
